THE Tales of RP
Alright. School didnt work.
God knows if the cardgame is gonna work.
So as a "reboot"/"redo" of the Tales RP, cause whats a tales site without a Tales RP, we're going to have a completely original Tales RP. It will not be based off of any existing tales game, it will not be in any of their worlds.
This is going to be a 100% original piece, in a world we make, using characters we make. Obviously, this is a planning topic, I dont plan to get this thing started till at the earliest July unless planning goes lightning fast. SO! For anyone interested, heres what we should start off with:
-Title. "Tales of......."
-World. Its name.
-Starting plot. All the plots shift later on in the game but theres always the initial "This is happening and therefore some people embark on a quest" plot at the start.
-Towns and Cities. Names, describe how they look in as much detail as possible.
Characters are gonna be a whole different story. Cause we'll need:
-The main cast. As of now anyone who joins can be main cast, but i'd like to not exceed 10, MAYBE 12 main heroes/heroines. I dunno if we'll get that much but who knows.
-Important NPCs. Town mayors, characters' friends and families, people who will aid us along the journey.
-Antagonists/Enemies. We're gonna need em, and we'll need at the least 10 important enemies with names, and 10 random guys who are higher people's lackeys who you only fight once, maybe twice. (Like Hawke from Tos2)
In terms of Enemies, if you want to make a main enemy who is important to the story and will appear numerous times, then make that clear when posting the character. We wont make any plans for THE big boss till the RP kicks off and we make some progress, but yeah planning n such.
As for having multiple characters: You can have as many enemies as you want if you think you can control them. Hell if you want to make your own syndicate and play as only enemies thats fine too. But unless we have a shortage of sign ups, everyone may only have ONE hero character.
Throw out thoughts and such!

Re: THE Tales of RP
In terms of fighting, if we're just fighting monsters and shit, we can just post normally, we seem to be well behaved in terms of having our characters actually take damage and shit.
Against other people though, this is where salvaging the card game comes in.
Rather than doing that in its entirety since nobody wants to bother with it anymore, we can still make the OC cards, and use those to keep track of our stats. So against bosses we can fight them via the card game style with the dice and such. It also allows for "Game overs" and adds a sense of having to actually work together well to the RP.

Honestly lol, besides us four I can see........maybe 3 more people signing up. Maybe.
So if we're short then you can have 2 heroes.

I'm still up for working on the card game. Life just came and hit me with a ton of stuff at once. Lol

Re: THE Tales of RP
Possibly, if others wanna bother with it over summer, but at this point I'd rather focus on working it in to make battles in the RP as good and realistic as possible lol. But hey, working out the battle system for the RP is technically working on the card game. But we would need sketches if we're gonna display the character and artes. Fuck I dont like having you draw everything though kilvas ;__;

Sketches to display artes? How do you mean? Like how fighting games have a ton of sketches for poses and movesets and stuff?Masu wrote:Possibly, if others wanna bother with it over summer, but at this point I'd rather focus on working it in to make battles in the RP as good and realistic as possible lol. If theyre just black and white sketches, I don't mind. But I don't plan on doing full blown concept art for everybody. Lol.

Re: THE Tales of RP
I'd wait a bit we have a general feel of the world itself before we name it. Titles usualy have a meaning of something in the game. still have no idea what a symphonia is hough, i guess that's what the tree was named.lol
I do like the sound of Adalon though.

Re: THE Tales of RP
Well it was named Syphonia because it had something to do with the two worlds joining together I think.
The tree was named Yggdrasil.

Re: THE Tales of RP
Recently they havent.
The last one was Vesperia.
Also I like tales of Absence. Sounds like its focusing on the lack of things among the cast or world
And Yggrdasil tree has nothing to do with the title lol.

I think he's refering to the Yggdrasil tree in Norse Mythology. Lol.
Also Masu what do you mean display sketches of artes? D:

..I MAY have understood that wrong. ><
Re: THE Tales of RP
Well the plot for most Tales games is that there's some lack of magic power (whatever they feel like calling it at the time) in the world. Do we want to do something like that?
And maybe we could separate the plotline into separate arcs and stuff. Like they do with Vesperia. There are some very clear points of climaxes. First with the death of Barbos, then after the Commandant, then of course the end with Duke.
In which case, maybe we should have a few people pair up to work on the specific arcs?

Re: THE Tales of RP
Or we can all give arcs an outline together in the planning topic. When things are planned by one or two people alone we get what always happens in P4.
"Whats going on"
"Whos that person"
"Im confused why is this happening"
which makes it seem like people don't read posts
It'll possibly be a little better if we just give an overview of an arc, say who the villians of it will be and then just take things as the go from there, that way theres still some form of surprise and such in terms of when bad people show up.

Re: THE Tales of RP
True. Good point.
So...I was thinking, what if for the first arc, something happens that like, someone wants to use a whole bunch of mana/eleth/watevr, ((can we call the magic stuff watevr?)) to do something.
Then the next arc is the people trying to restore magic to the land before it dies.
Then the final arc is dealing with the reprecussions of restoring watevr to the land, and the means resulted in some kind of darkness spreading or something.
Cliche and kinda used, but a solid framework for more detail.
Thoughts?

Though you DID point out "Cliche and used" so hmmmmm......Itd be hard, and take ALOT of thinking but I just wanna try to deviate from the whole "Planet losing its magic force" thing majority tales games do.
But at the same time it has to be something threatening enough to involve the whole world...........hmmmmmmm shit. Lol
Re: THE Tales of RP
Okay. We can brainstorm some more. I was just picking out some ideas from tales games. There's a lot of them that follow that formula.
At the same time, it's hard to completely detach from that too. I was just about to say: "What about a war between nations?" But then I thought: "Oh. Well that's Graces, Abyss, and Vesperia."
Maybe the first arc should be something really simple? Like one character just wants to go out and see the world and then runs into a series of small problems? Then during that, a few of the small problems smack hints of something greater, which sets up for the main story?

Re: THE Tales of RP
That actually sounds great. Though I think we're gonna need an established main character for this. Not even for having more of a focus on, but for the eventual "You have received the legendary weapon/blessing of *insert goddess of the world here*"
Unless we have a group of said weapons/blessings, but the only game that did that main story was Innocence I believe and that was just regaining memories of their past lives.
