The Serene Walkthroughs Empty The Serene Walkthroughs

Post by Tatsuya Thu Jun 25, 2009 10:59 pm

This week (or couple of weeks) is a basic guide to Ultimate mode of Phantasy Star Online

A Serene Walkthrough of:
Phantasy Star Online: Ultimate Mode

Phantasy Star Online or PSO had four degrees of difficulty. Ultimate mode is the hardest of the four. Redesigning almost all of the monsters in ep 1, giving them additional effects. And even giving the bosses new looks. So here’s what is necessary to know.

Monster Redesigns: Most of the monsters in episode 1 got a new look, none of the monsters not used exclusively in ep 2 did however. Here’s a list of monster changes.

Forest:
N,H,VH: Ult
Booma: Bartle
Gobooma: Barble
Gigobooma: Tollaw
Rag Rappy: El Rappy
Al Rappy: Pal rappy
Mothmant: Mothvert
Savage Wolf: Gulgus
Barbarous Wolf: Gulgus-Gue
Hildebear: Hidelt
Hildeblue: Hidetor
Dragon: Sil Dragon

Caves:
Grass Assassin: Crimson Assassin
Poison Lily: Ob Lily
Nar Lily: Mil Lily
Evil Shark: Vulmer
Pal Shark: GoVulmer
Guil Shark: Melqueek
Del Rol Le: De Ral Lie

Mines:
Gillchic: Gillchich
Dubchic: Dubchich
Canadine: Canabin
Canane: Canune
Sinow Beat: Sinow Blue
Sinow Gold: Sinow Red
Garanz: Baranz
Vol Opt: Vol Opt ver.2

Ruins:
Dimenian: Arlan
La Dimenian: Merlan
So Dimenian: Del-D
Dark Belra: Indi Belra
Chaos Sorcerer: Gran Sorcerer
Chaos Bringer: Dark Bringer

Changes in monster Attacks and effects:

Forest:
Mothvert has chance to poison non android characters
Gulgus can hit you with a slow if he lands an attack
Gulgus-Gue can paralyze non android characters
Hidelt now cast GiTsu: Chance of Shock
Hildetor cast Megid: May instant kill
Sil Dragon now attacks with ice, touching him instantly freezes you, and is now weak to Foi

Caves:
Crimson Assassin freezes you instead of sticking you
Ob Lily spits Megid
Mil Lily also spits megid, but if the level of megid used by Ob lily’s in the room is higher, they will get that level

Mines:
Gill and Dubchich’s now only get knocked down roughly 20% of the time instead of all the time
Sinow Blue can disappear from map and radar, better than the Sinows in ep 2
Sinow Red can now cast Shift and Deband as well as a Resta that cures 85 HP to most people in the room
Vol opt ver.2: The pillars in the first form don’t get stunned, and now fire GiFoi and GiWat as well as GiTsu

Ruins:
Indi Belra now rapid fires arms
Gran Sorcerer cast Grants and Megid instead of Rafoi and Giwat
Chaos Bringer can unequip you with a successful charge attack

Boss changes:

De Ral Lie: his attack patter changes drastically, starting off with the blob attack, his tenacle attacks land faster, only allowing you to get probably a weak strong in between them. His laser attack when the lights are off is incredibly fast, expect to be hit by two or three of them.
Vol Opt v 2.0: Besides what I mentioned, his second form now as a few new attacks. The pillar attack also has a random form. If you see that the laser signifying the pillar attack doesn’t follow you, then it’s going to go random. His attack pattern in this is randomized. He heals 540 each time he uses heal.
Dark Falz: This is the only ep 1 boss that didn’t get changed. However his Megid in Ult mode during the third form instantly kills you no matter what you’re EDK (Darkness immunity) is. Blade Drain does a set amount of damage no matter what. During his second form, after casting either Rafoi or RaWat, three Darvants (the spiked mines) will appear circling you and trying to attack you. If you’re frozen they instant critical you.

Items worth getting:

Ult mode gives the enemies a huge stat boost, more than the change between any other difficulty. Meaning they have a ton more HP than any other level. If you are a female hunter or Ranger with TP access (non cast) it’s ideal to get the highest level of these spells. Shift, Deband, Jellen, Zalure, and Resta. Forces have access to all 30 levels of spells, female’s only get up to 20. While the Hunter and Ranger human Male only get up to level 15, no Shifta and Deband for the HuMar, and no Jellen and Zalure for the RaMar.
A crowd control weapon such as a rare or fifth tier Sword (For Hunters), or Partisan (for Rangers) is a must. As well as a good mechgun, why a mechgun, because if you use Shift you can do a good hundred or so damage with each normal attack, and with nine attacks, that can kill a monster easily. Though if you can’t find a Mechgun, a Legendary saber makes a good replacement.
A ranged weapon is needed on any character, especially for the ob Lily, and for a couple boss fights. A handgun for Hunters, and a Rifle for Rangers. A good item for Rangers is the frozen shooter due to the fact you have the option to use the special attack to freeze them. Though be warned that you have a chance to be frozen, though it’s slight.
Forces have the easiest time in Ult mode, due to the fact that this is where their magic get’s highly potent, my Huneweal (hunter Newman female) which has the highest non force MST in the game, does a good 200-250 with simple techs if the enemy getting hit by it has a low immunity to it. And since Forces should have double my MST they could do about 500 or so possibly more depending on a weapon they have.

Cheap ways for Extra EXP and finding rares:

Rare monsters such as the as the Al Rappy appear at a completely random rate. One of my failed Oran Humar’s got one on it’s first sighting. While my Purplenum hunter has only seen it once. Here’s a trick, pipping. The Telepipe trick is where you set up a telepipe in any room with a rare equivalent. This is possible due to the fact that all enemies reset when you leave the area and go back to the ship or another area. Which means that if you see a rappy and you Telepipe, and come back you have another chance at finding an Al rappy.

Good places to use the pipe trick:

Al/Pal Rappy: Fake in yellow (44 rappies)
Hildeblue/Hildetorr: Forest of Sorrow (16)
Nar/Mil Lily: Addicting food (62)
Pouilly Slime: Addicting Food (13 slimes with 52 total if you split)
How to split the Polluifly Slime: The blue slime can split in one of two ways
  1. 1. Getting hit with the third attack in the chain
  2. 2. Getting hit with Wat

Recommended Level’s to start out the area

Disclaimer: This is only recommended, it doesn’t mean that it’s smart

Forest:
Hunter: LVL 65
Ranger: LVL 60
Force: LVL 55

Cave:
Hunter: LVL 70
Ranger: LVL 65
Force: LVL 60

Mines:
Hunter: LVL 110
Rangers: LVL 100
Forces: LVL 70

Ruins
Hunters: LVL 110
Rangers: LVL 120
Forces: LVL 100

Episode Two

Though in Episode two, the monsters outside of the VR rooms don’t change. Some of them get changes in their effects here’s a list

Changes in effects:

VR common enemies have the same effects
Love Rappy replaces Pal Rappy as Rare
Barba Ray is faster in his attacks and his Ul Rays (the yellow ones) will instantly Paralyze non android characters, instead of confusing.
Gol Dragon is the same as Vhard, which I mean that it makes two clones instead of one, which puts three dragons on the field.
Ul Gibbons Spit Tsu, chance of shock
Zol Gibbons spit a rather low level Megid. Low chance of instand death
Mericarol/Merikle/Mericus’ projectile attack is a sure instant kill no matter what
Ill Gill (the scythe monsters in the West Tower Quest in PSO+), have a high chance of instant death, Shock or Freeze with their spell bladed scythes
Deldepths spit Megid rather than Wat

Bosses in both modes that require a handgun or Rifle

De Ral Lie (for when he’s off the raft)
Dark Falz (For second and third forms)
Olga Flow (can’t hit him in his first form without one if not a force)

Boss Tech weakness: If it’s weak to a tech

Sil Dragon: Foi
De Ral Lie: Foi
Vol Opt V 2.0: Tsu
Dark Falz 1st form: Tsu
Dark Falz 2nd form: Wat
Dark Falz 3rd form: Grants and Foi
Barba Ray: Tsu
Gol Dragon: Wat
Gal Gryphon: Foi or Grants
Gael (the things around Olga Flow’s second Form): Foi
Olga Flow 1st Form: Foi or Wat
Olga Flow 2nd Form: Grants

HP totals on Ult mode (in the same order):

9500
11000
12000
16000 (Vol Opt second form)
10000
8900
10000
7700
9900
13600
1500
12500
16000

Various Tips for Surviving:

Doorway Sniping: Get a gun, shoot at enemies until they get close. Retreat behind door. Heal and recast spells, do again
Weapons Special: Certain specials can assist you greatly, such as Berserk (gives up HP for a powerful attack), Spirit (gives up TP for powerful attack) or Charge (gives up Meseta for powerful attacks. Or cutting HP specials such as Devils and Demons. Or Freezing the enemy with a powerful Ice special.

Technique info:

Foi (Foie): Fire spell, comes in three forms, basic Gi, and Ra form
Wat (Barta): Ice spell, comes in the same three forms. Chance of freezing on Gi and Ra spells
Tsu (Zonde): Thunder spell, comes in three forms, and can shock.
Grants: Light Spell
Megid: Instant Kill Spell
Shift (Shifta): Attack Raising Spell, can be used on party members at higher levels (at lvl 5)
Deband: Defense Raising Spell, can be used on party members starting at lvl 5
Jellen: Lowers Enemies Attack, can be used on nearby enemies at lvl 5
Zalure: Defense lowering spell, can be used on nearby enemies at lvl 5
Resta: Heals people at set HP total, can heal nearby party members at about lvl 5
Anti: Removes various effects, except if the caster is effected with Paralyzed. Starts to remove other party members effect at lvl 2
Reverser: Basically the spell version of Moon Dew (or Atomizer)
Ryuker: Spell form of Telepipe

The Serene Walkthroughs Empty Re: The Serene Walkthroughs

Post by Tatsuya Sun Dec 06, 2009 1:21 pm

Here's some basic info about Knights in the Nightmare. It's still a work in process.
Serene Walkthrough of
Knights in the Nightmare

Introduction
Knights in the Nightmare is the Third game (fourth in terms of numbers in the Series). It’s the most different from the other two games of the series, as it is a mix of arcade, RPG, and strategy elements. It features the Wisp as it travels through a land over ran with monsters as he tries to figure out what is happening.

Main Characters
The Wisp: The character you control with the stylist, the soul of the now dead king.
Maria: A mysterious character who is the reason why you are revived as the Wisp, her reasons for reviving you are revealed during the course of the story. Seeks the magical Wand Ancardia

Controls
You control the wisp in combat, all of the actions are initated with the touch screen. You move the wisp, selecting characters to attack, using items, and gathering gems. As well as selecting items to use pre battle

Phases of Battle
There are two phases in the game: Law Phase, Chaos Phase. Both phases determine how your character attacks, and the number of gems you get. For the more times you attack with an item on that same phase, you gain less gems

Classes
Duelist: Female warriors who use swords (kinda like Fia from Riviera). Law attack is a pierce that goes 5 squares ahead and one square to the left and right on the first line, making kinda like a really poor looking sword with no hilt. Chaos Skill is a jump, that moves your character one space ahead.
Duelist is a front attacker and can only go left and forward.

Warrior: Male fighters who can break any thing that can be broken. Uses axes as their weapon. Their law skill is a straight sweep of the four squares in front. Chaos Skill is a long range V that has 7 points of attack. Front attack only

Archers: As the name suggest they use Bows as their main weapon of attack. Damage from the bow is determined by the size of the enemy. Basically the more squares the monster takes up (like a dragon) the more damage it deals, and the reverse is said for a small monster (like a fairy). Law Skill is a straight forward attack that locks on if you stop on it. Making it so that the enemy doesn’t move and takes the damage, can stun the enemy. Chaos Skill is a large square range of the same design of the Law one, does more damage but can’t stun. Back attacker meaning they can only attack right and behind.

Wizard: One of the two magic classes, uses Rods as their weapon. Law attack is a Gram trap. Which set’s a square up for a magic trap, if it’s stepped on it’s triggered and does massive damage, goes away after 90 seconds, can’t hit flying monsters. Chaos Skill is a large mass of area, basically coving almost all of the map, doesn’t do as much damage as a Gram trap but it hits everything in the area. Back Attackers.

Priestess: Female Magic users uses Staves as weapons. Law Skill is a three pillar attack that goes left, right, and in front of the character for about five spaces or until you are out of spaces. Chaos skill is a gram same idea like the Wizards Gram. Back Attackers

Hermit: Female Assassins who use knives and short blades to attack. Law Skill is a V shape attack that starts right in front of the character. If it hits an enemy one of six various effects can happen. One for each type of weapon element. Chaos skill is a line 3 squares ahead of them on each side. Back attacker
Wound: Neutral Element: Turns Enemies into Neutral Class, and next attacks damage is doubled.
Burn: Fire Element: Turns Enemy into Fire Class. Regan damage on a monster becomes actual damage.
Freeze: Ice Element: Turns enemy into ice class and enemy can’t move or attack, if it falls from a height greater than 3 critical damage is dealt.
Shock: Lightning Element: Turns enemy into lightning class enemy is slowed and can’t attack
Bless: Sanctity Element: Turns enemy into Sanctity class enemy will produce more gems then normal when hit
Curse: Darkness Element: Turns enemy into darkness class and same effects as burn

Knight: Uses Lances as a weapon. Law Skill allows them to stab ahead up to 6 spaces. Chaos Skill charges them ahead either one or 2 spaces, attack won’t work if there is a height difference of .5. All range attacker means that they can attack all directions.

Valkyrie: All range attacker that uses all seven weapon variants. Law Skill is a cleave that take 3 squares one line 2 squares next and one square after that. Chaos Skill is a jump that has the same range as the Priestess Law Skill except that it moves the character ahead. Executioner skill (EX skill) can be used after getting Ancardia in 23.5 and the Black Wings in chapter 24. EX skill covers entire field but only able to be used in Law Phase

Astre: The Blue Version equivalent of the Valkyrie Class with a different move set. Chaos attack is a stright foward attack that won't hit an enemy with a hight difference of 1.0. Law Attack is a sweep forward.

Character Stats
Vitality (Vit): The health bar, once it reaches 0 character is lost. If the Valkyrie reaches 0 the game ends. Vitality can be recoved by gaining a lvl or through the transoul Process. You lose .1 for a normal attack, .5 for a skill, and 1.0 for a High skill, 3.0 on a EX skill. These numbers are for normal up
CI: Chaos Index, determines how much damage they do using an attack during Chaos Phase. Can be changed during Transoul Process
LI: Law Index, determines damage during Law Phase. Changed during Transoul Process.
Lvl: Your current Lvl can be changed during Transoul
LVL Max: The lvl cap on that character: Varies between character and can be changed during Transoul Process.
Loyalty: Determines how effective the Transoul Process is.

Recuriting Characters:
To Recurit Characters you must have their key item, it will tell you in game in a message “A key item will make them join” look in your item bank and look for yellow key items, these are the items that will be used this chapter. Just give the character the right key item

Monster ablities
Lamia: Blows kisses if it sees you charging up for a skill attack, if it hit’s the character you’re using, it will turn them into a statue until you turn the Jamming gear down to zero
Slime: Can split into two monsters with half the HP of the original: Can be stopped by using Jamming gear
Bat: Launches a light that effect’s a chunck of the screen if it hit’s the wisp it reverses the controls for a period of time. Can be stopped with Jamming Gear
Dragon: Launches up a set of flames: Can be stopped with Jamming gear though be warned it’s almost impossible to do
Witch: If it sees a Gram she’ll disarm it, and she can set grams: Both can be stopped with Jamming gear
Midget monster: If you get an item to appear on field, it will spring up a hand bullet that will grab the item if you don’t
Spider: Launches a web on one of the four sides of the screen making it impossible to use.
Animated Statue: Can defend in certain cases: Stopped if it’s making an action or if a white U appears above them
Large Monster with club: Can break item creates like Warrior: Stopped with Jamming Gear
Wolf: If it sees someone charging it will charge at them. If the wolf hit’s the character it will drain VIT at 1.0 a time. Only can be stopped with jamming gear.

Gear’s
Jamming gears: Stops various effects of Monsters: Sometimes makes effects occur
Elemental Gear: Can change the elemental affinity of a monster: Determines what does double damage

Bosses and their ablities
Jamie the Wolf: Jamming Gear turns him into a weakened state, which allows you to do more damage to him. Rage Attack makes a moon appear and spreads shards of the moon all over the field
Rivulia the Judgement: Doesn’t move
Melissa: Flyer, has a seal that can stop your charging, on a character and won’t let you select anything, touching sides does time damage. In the last confrontation against her she gains an A.S shield which negates all damage when it’s up
Gunther: If it see’s a knight Charging up for an attack it will charge at it *as seen by the two red !!*. If it hit’s the character while you still are connected to it. The character will be Vit Killed.
Garm and Daudalos: Garm has same properties as a Wolf, Daudalos only appears once Garm is killed, and he can summon 3 regular wolfs
Leonil: Uses various weapons to attack with, switches weapons at will
Aculienne: Uses a lock on bullet that if it connects fully, will make five arrows appear one at a time on your last known location. Timer under Boss determines time left
Capehorn: Has 3 scrolls that if you touch while they are black will such 1 lvl off of your MP scale. Summons Skull Knights
Virgo: Get’s angry after each attack
Vinya: Summons monsters
Piche: Heals herself, can be stopped with Jamming Gear, flys around on stage
Aliers servant: Warps around on map and makes copies of herself
Alier: Rides a Dragon, while on dragon her DEF is up, can be knocked off
Zologonark: 3 headed monster, middle head can only be attacked when left and right head are gone. Right Head Heals while left head can enrage causing more bullet time loss. Both skills can be stopped with jamming.
Melod Melgis: Alters the area

Regan damage: There's two types of Damage dealt to enemies, the known damage, which is where the part of the HP bar at the bottom of the screen ends. There is also Regan damage, which is the darker part of the bar until it goes black. The Black part of the bar is damage that can only be recovered with a special skill (typically jam able). Regan Damage is slowly recovered (rate determined by difficulty), this can be stopped by using a Hermits Fire or Dark Law Status effect as it negates recovery from Regan damage.

Rush Counter and Weapons strenght: There's a secret counter that is tied with the quality of a weapon. To make a weapon better quality, you need to pick up the various orbs and rocks that drop from enemies during combat (typically when they die). In the Strenghtening weapons section of the menu before the next chapter. You can select an item to increase quality. You can only increase it if you have enough weapon and elemental material (anywhere from 1-3 per increase) max increase is 9 and percent of actual increase decreases with more quality. If you fail to gain an increase you lose durablity.
On certain occasions you will get a number in a color next you your item. This is a Rush Counter Effect (or RC effect). The effect can be anything from no charge time, characters that can't move can. To a certain bullet dealing more damage, to turn ending if you get hit by a bullet in 10 seconds. I don't know atm how it all works, but I think it's tied to how many times you have hit something that turn as the counter resets each turn.

Bullet’s
Bullet’s are what the enemies fire at the wisp, each bullet that hit’s takes a chunk of the timer, you get 60.00 on time for each turn, time is lost when charging a character or getting hit.
Difficulty determines how much time is lost

Gems
What fills your MP gauge, large gems fill the gauge faster than smaller ones, amount of gems varies on how many targets you hit, and how many attacks you have used in that phase

High Skills
High Skills deal more damage then regular skills, can only be trigger with the correct element (Darkness characters can only use Darkness high skills etc).
Loses 1.0 per use of a High Skill
Use of a High Skill also loses the ability to use the weapon for the entire turn
Valkyrie can use all high skills

EX skills: Executioner Skill, only usable on a weapon with a High Skill. It's a Valkyrie/Astre exclusive. Valkyrie get's their's in Law mode with Astre in Chaos mode. To activate Chaos skill wait a second till a triangle with the word EX Skill is above them. Spin it like a gear once and it will enitiate a timer that will start once you let go of the character. Be warned Mellia's Chaos EX Skill doesn't hit the entire area like Maria's, it hits like her C skill ignoring the hight issues. So don't use on a moving boss unless it's what's gonna end the game for you.

Blue KitN
A different version of KitN that you can only get by having a complete save file of Red KitN. To get, load the complete save file, it will warp you back to the opening but when you see the title screen the back drop will be blue
Various Knights that you can recurit have been swapped with new ones.
Valkyrie Maria has been swapped with Astree Melia, a blue armored maiden, Mellisa has been swapped with Marietta
Ending choices have been swapped
Difficulty is slightly harder than that same difficulties Red mode
End game is easier however as a result

Transoul
Transoul is the ability to give one character to another. The character that receives get’s an increase or decrease in VIT, CI, LI. As well as an increase in lvl up and lvl max.
Gains are determined by these factors
Loyalty
Order
Race
Built in relationships
Character’s can be give character’s as many times as you want (right now I have like 3 duelist at lvl 60 with about 10 character’s transouled between them

New game Plus
You have the option of starting a new game with a new game plus file. These effects happen
You keep the Knights you did get killed or Transouled
All Knights that were Exiled, Transouled or Killed can be recruited again (unless you are on a different version then they might not be able to)
All weapons you have gained will not return

Exiling Units:
If you don’t like the unit and they are shitty units to transoul you can exile them
Exiling them makes them leave the party, and you get a high lvl item
IF you Exile them, you can not get them back

Leveling up a unit
It takes a certain amount of exp to lvl up a character (usually 10,000 and up every 10,000)
There is a maximum to each character’s leveling up that can be changed with the Transoul Process

Tips in game
Use non skill attacks: This is a must on any difficulty higher than Easy. You get more gems if you strike a monster with a Normal attack then a Skill attack. Though you barely do any damage
Use New Game Plus: If you start a normal game without the help of a higher lvl character you will be facing a challenge because this game is Tough, even on Easy mode for the first time

Special Thanks
Special Thanks to Lacrima Castle for having some of these information that I used (most of the Transoul information)

Update (12/9/09): Added info on the Rush Counter, the Astre class, and EX skills
