So, I just picked this up.

I hate playing sequels before the first one, but I can't find Symphonia ANYWHERE so I finally I got too impatient looking for it and decided to rent this.

So far, the graphics are really pretty and the voice actors don't sound that bad (I've never played Symphonia so I'm spared from having to compare Llyod and co.'s voices to the previous ones XD)

Just two questions:
- Do I have to know Symphonia's plot really well to understand this?
- Do they keep showing flashbacks from TWO SECONDS AGO throughout the entire game? >_>

And Emil is a really hated character from what I've heard, but I feel bad for the poor guy. His entire town's against him and his only family treats him like rubbish. No wonder he's got such an inferiority complex.

The flashback thing happens mainly in regards to "Courage is the Magic that Turns Dreams into Reality", but also there are occasional other issues of flashbacks at other times as well so you might want to get used to them.

Really you don't need to know Symphonia's plot to understand it but they hint alot at things they don't explain because they are from the first game.

Have you tried looking on Amazon.com for the game, I could send you a link for the game if you want to order it.

In this order:
-I helps but they fill you in on some important stuff.
-Question: Do you know what courage is? Because they will remind you. Constantly.

The flashbacks won't annoy you as much as the repitition of the line will. But Emil needs it cause of how much of a wimp he is.

And Symphonia isn't NEEDED to understand it, but you shouldn't base your opinions on the pre-existing characters on this one game. And the voice actors for the guys of the previous game were just part of the character. So don't be weirded out by the first one should you get it.

And Yes. Look on Amazon. If you can't afford it, I'll buy it for you myself. That's how good a game it is.

And yes. Emil is hated. And you do feel bad for him at first. It won't be so bad for you, cause you don't have the pre-existing bond with Lloyd that all the other players of the original had, but after a while, Emil will try your patience to no end.

Marta however, will get more bearable as time goes on.

Although, Tenebre will get unbearable.

No, not at all. In fact, oddly enough. DotNW doesn't spoil ANYTHING at all about the first ToS. Trust me. I was looking for anything...anything at all that directly tied it to the first ToS. ;_; I guess that's why it's a spinoff and not a sequel.

So don't worry about playing this one first.

Although I gotta say I think playing TOS2 first makes it a little more bearable then someone who playes TOS1 first.

While that does make sense, it would put into your head pre-existing opinions about the old characters. So it wouldn't be the same experience than if you played the original game first.

Which is what I reccomend.

I'm at that wind place now! Alice terrifies me. I'm liking the music so far, though Vesperia's stands out to me more at the moment.

And what you've all been saying about it being easier to tolerate the new cast because I don't really know the old cast is completely true. I have no judgements on any of the old cast because I know that they're all awesome and misunderstood by the new cast, but it's much much easier for me to sympathize with Emil and Marta then those who played as Lloyd and Colette previously. Makes me wonder if it would have been easier to sympathize with Micaiah and the Dawn Brigade in FE10 if I hadn't already played and fallen madly in love with the cast of FE9. XD

But I still don't like Emil's voice. Even if it does suit him. I'm lovin' his knight voice though. (AND I DON'T CARE IF HE'S WIMPY I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO LOVE HIM THE POOR BOY)

Johnny Yong Bosch did a good job with someone as terrible as Emil.

I mean, he can't help but be good as Guy Cecil, Lelouche or Ichigo.

but when he can he be decent as someone like Emil it shows what a VA god he truly is.

Im with everyone, i WILL buy you TOS. Our gamestops have tons of copies here for like 15 bucks. I mean GOD. Its SO, FUCKING, AWESOME. I bought Branded(Syn) his copy of it because he NEEDED it. Man, I remember getting it back in 9th grade about 4 years ago, my sister and I stayed up 29 hours straight playing it. I loved everything from ToS, hell i even liked the story, something I usually dont like. Genis is the greatest character ever, why did they make him sound like a girl in Abomination of the new world??? I Lloyd's new VA, I hate it. Only person it fits is Rivalz from code geass. The others were either their originals or just fine, oh wait, zelos' was terrible. I WOULD play this game more, if, y'know, YOU DIDNT HAVE TO PLAY WITH THE GOD DAMN FUCKING WIIMOTE/NUNCHCK! And yet, Ritcher makes it into tales of VS when Zelos doesnt. Well symphonia team has enough ppl as is I GUESS but it lacks GENIS FUCKING SAGE.
I think i've beaten the original symphonia at least 30 times. I've gotten every ending, gotten everything in the game blah balh blah blah blah. Greatest thing ever was when my sister and I fought abyssion, and she always uses either collete or presea, she was collete and used pow hammer. But if shes used it over 200 times after 1st PT, sometimes it turns into "Toss hammer" which poisons. She poisoned abyssion, then he died within 10 seconds.

LOL. Epic.

Abysson is a lot of fun to fight.

At least they had the common sense not to put Emil into Versus. And they probably didn't put Zelos in, cause they new everyone hated the new voice.

1.VS probably wont be in the US, due to a bunch of Destiny 2/Hearts/Rebirth/Innocence characters being in,which were JP only
2.theres still 7 characters left, and so far they've been adding in "Rivals" like Stahn and Leon,Lloyd and Kratos and stuff like that, so sadly emil may be in.
