Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I got kinda swindled into pre-ordering it by the guys at gamestop. Not a bad thing, cause I can't imagine myself HATING a Mario game. But I just don't think I would have bought it on my own.
Still, I haven't bought a strictly Mario game since I think Luigi's Mansion. And that was the first console game I ever got. So this is a bit exciting I guess. Lol.

Well, uh...I hope it works out for you, then.
The first console game I got was Super Mario 64, and Galaxy is almost literally that but in space. So that's partly why I'm looking forward to this so much.
I was one of those people crazy enough to actually like Super Mario Sunshine and everything. These just happen to be my type of game

Yeah. I got into gaming pretty late. I missed the entire Playstation/N64 generation.
With good fortune too for the most part. The N64 controller was made out of ass, and the Playstation graphics looked pretty bad.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Word on the street is that Luigi is playable once you get 20 stars. Yes
But more suspicious than that is that it appears as though you unlock somebody else when you get all of them.
It'll probably be someone stupid like Peach or Blue Toad, but if it's Wario then this becomes GOTY by default.SUPER WARIO GALAXY
...I just hope it doesn't get spoiled, whoever it is
Also apparently they brought back the SM64 slide theme. And it's going to be an orchestrated remix.
Fucking yes

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
It came out today. I'm 30 or so stars into it.
Was the first one this hard? Because this game clearly wants me dead
It was tough from the beginning and only got worse...
Difficulty is good, though. Many recent Nintendo-type games have been missing this.
So the game's great and works especially for me because it draws a lot of inspiration from Super Mario 64, the first game I ever played (the game has lots of classic Mario things in it...but that's a given by now. NOSTALGIA WON'T SUPPORT YOU FOREVER NINTENDO).

- Spoiler:
- I had to go down some sort of ancient tribal death-slide.
The music leading up to it was nothing but a creepy drumbeat.
"It would be funny," I said to myself, "If the crazy slide theme from Super Mario 64 randomly starts when I jump down the slide. LOL"
AND THEN IT DID

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I got 120 stars, losing most of my blood in the process.
Now I can start the SECOND half of the game, where the developers just threw stars everywhere in the stupidest places they could possibly think of.
It's like Knuckles'/Rouge's mission five, but for THE ENTIRE GAME.
No I'm not going to explain that. You should know what I'm talking about.

Of course, those scores tend to get lower as time passes, but still...Kotaku wrote:Super Mario Galaxy 2 is now the highest rated video game in history... at least according to Game Rankings and its penchant for number crunching and outliers-inclusive averaging. It was a good run 1998's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Well
I have 241 stars now
There's just one left in the game.
It's called "The Perfect Run".
They are not kidding.
To get to it
I had to get every star from every galaxy
And also every comet medal. These are in super dangerous places in each galaxy, and you have to collect them, THEN finish the level before you get to keep it.
Meaning, if you miss one, finishing the level is meaningless because you're going to have to go back for the medal later.
The comet medals unlock comets, which are harder versions of all the levels, several of which were hard enough to begin with...
After finishing all of those and beating the last boss twice, THEN the green stars appear. There are 120 of these and they're deliberately put in places no sane man/woman should attempt to reach.
If somehow you get all of THOSE, you unlock THE ULTIMATE TEST which is a big long string of some of the worst obstacles the game designers could come up with. There's a comet medal here, too.
...But the comet won't show up until you farm star bits for an hour until you have 9999 of them in the bank, because why not.
After finishing all of this you reward is "The Perfect Run."
But it's just THE ULTIMATE TEST.
With the obstacles jacked up.
And the checkpoints removed.
And your health is reduced to 1.
The difficulty is completely off the scale.
But that's okay because the idea is that, if you beat all the rest of the game, you should be able to get the last star.
It's not as hard as the Hell Level of Cave Story, after all, so I'm sure I can do it, given enough time.
But I don't want to.
It feels like a massive amount of effort wasted on something that doesn't do anything for me in the end.
This is totally not a good time to start having those thoughts again...I'll probably get to it eventually.
