Atlus is making their first HD game titled "Catherine". The game's director is Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 4, and the character designs will be done by Shigenori Soejima, the artist of Persona 4. The game is action adventure, with a horror theme aimed at adults.

Vincent, a 32 year old salaryman lacking ambition, is charmed by Catherine, a 22 year old mysterious beauty. At night, Vincent is plagued by nightmares where he climbs a never ending staircase. He can wake up if he reaches the top, but it appears there is a connection between the dream world and the real world.There’s a rumor that if you fall in the dream you die in real life

Whats this have to do with persona? Well in persona 3 portable, if you play as hamuko, you can actually meet the protagonist of Catherine at club escapade.

Well this will be cool, since its horror and themed at adults, we'll probably have a really deep (and possibly realistic) plot since its not your typical "Happy teenager brigade" RPG. I mean, the mc is 32 years old (and looks awesome in P3P. I hope he stays that way)

Looks pretty awesome. Do we know what system it's gonna be for? I'm for an adult-themed game. I hope it does well. Could be the start of a new angle for the Persona series.

I am liking the idea of a horror more mature themed story.

I think you don't gotta worry about this not getting localized as much since this is Atlus and I think that they are more prong to allowing games localized even if it might not do as well (though I think this game has a good chance of catchin thunder when it comes to the American Audience).

It will be censored to hell most likely when it comes to America.

Doubtful roz. They didnt censor Persona 3 or 4 even though you can basically be a lesbian with Elizabeth. They didnt censor Strange Journey or Devil Survivor despite the heavy biblical story towards the end (hell the fucking hero and his cousin are CAIN AND ABEL) Atlus is good at stuff like this. They also know that their audience praises them for NOT trying to sugar coat shit and such. Also, Atlus also localizes damn near everything. Think about their latest main stream releases:

Persona 4:Yes
Devil Survivor:Yes
Persona 1 PSP:Yes
Persona 3 Portable:Yes
Strange Journey:Yes

They know they'll make a fuck ton off of giving us a new standalone HD title, even if it isnt SMT, they already hyped millions of gamers just by saying "Its done by the guys who did persona 4. Nuff said." Also, the inclusion of Vincent in P3P shows that they've had this in the works for quite sometime, especially considering that persona 3 portable came out a year ago in japan in 2 months.

I'm pretty sure it'll be localized. I'm just paranoid now that games I'm looking forward too will not be after those assholes at Tales inc had their way with me.

It's like I'm a rape victim. Now I can no longer trust any men until they've proven they can be trusted.

Anyway, as for the censorship thing, I doubt they will. Persona has always been kind of an under the radar thing. It's not like GTA. If you don't know the series, you're not going to hear anything about Cathrine. So I doubt that they'll censor it at all.

And even if it was a popular game, all they need to do is put a rating label on it. All the people that play Persona are more sophisticated gamers that get the whole artistic thing behind games. So a more mature theme would be welcomed.

And I think that the whole 'mature' thing they're going for is to just make the game more about things relative to the adult world: Debt, drugs, sex, violence, murder, poverty. Stuff like that. Most of which are found IN american games. And popular ones at that. GTA has every single one of those things mentioned above and it's one of the biggest american series out there for little kids under the age of 15.

So yeah. I doubt Cathrine will be censored. And I like the idea of games being directed at a more adult audience, rather than happy-go-lucky fun time games for kids, or shoot everything in sight games for retards.

I could use a good horror game. Every once in a while I enjoy a good scare. And it's hard to find good stuff.

I'm looking forward to this step in Atlus's gaming market. And I'd be happy to be part of the experience.

probably. MAYBE december 2010 for japan. A winter release would be really nice for the US. when it gets dark out early, so i can play the game at night alone and piss mysself

Yes. That's why I've put off playing Bioshock. Cause I want to play it in wintertime.

Best time to play that game, the second one is even more so.

It'll probably end up here in about a year. It looks like it's as developed as P3P was at this time. It might be a bit more difficult, since P3P had a lot of it's stuff already made before, from P3 and P3:FES, but I'm expecting this next July in America.

More details to follow when Atlus tells us. Who knows, maybe they'll do something with it at e3.

Appearance wise it reminds me of Welcome to the NHK.

But yeah it looks cool.

I'm worried that the dungeon may end up like a smaller Tartarus. But, still, that was just a little boring. Judging by the hands trying to terminally grope the player, it looks like it'll be more than that though.
