Self-renewing XBL? Empty Self-renewing XBL?

Ok, when Zero and I got this 360, it had about 2 months of XBL left, and Zero's friend paid for a 3-month membership for us.
...
I haven't had to use it yet. The past two times I've gotten emails saying my "Gold membership will be renewed."
How? I haven't done anything. D:

I also got a message from a guy saying "1600 *microsoft points symbol*" But that was a day after the email so I'm sure it's unrelated.

That sounds odd, I have only heard of that if you setup a payment plan.
