Site insighting!

Yes. There is a gaming club already at our school, but it's literally filled with the stereotypical D&D in their basement bottom dweller freaks. Also they're corrupt. Like they're trying to get a budget of $9400(As opposed to their 'low' amount of 7500) so they can go on trips to cons. And that's fine, but:

1. They're using school money.
2. A majority of their group is people NOT enrolled in the school (There's at least one guy who's 400lbs and in his 40s.)
3. They don't advertise the trips.
It's very clicky and self absorbed.

But I don't want to spend the entire topic talking about their flaws, what my friends and I are trying to do is create a group that involves ALL types of gamers:
Video gamers, Paintball dudes, board game people, etc etc

Pretty much, anyone who plays a game, is welcomed to join.

Looking at the big picture((Very big)), we want to make our school the gaming capital of NY. Beyond that, we want to unite the country with the idea that gaming is a completely acceptable means of social interaction, and games are a way of breaching cultural boundaries.

I think we as a forum fit that description as well. That's kinda the idea that I want to start going with the forum here.

Lately I think we've been slacking a lot. Honestly, I would say that I'm probably the biggest slacker on the site right now. As an admin, I've done literally nothing for a while now, and I don't think that's very professional of me. ((Not that we've got much of a professional environment, but I like to at least give the image that when shit goes down, I'll be there.))

I'd like to start changing the forum's attitude a bit, but I need the support of all you guys too. I'm gonna see if I can get people to join the site through this group we're making, and that might help the site a lot.

I got a little off topic here, but the one thing that I felt really made this forum awesome was that it felt like a little family. We still have that when shit gets serious, but there was a time that I used to talk to Masu daily, and now I barely even respond to his posts on the site.

It's easy to blame my(our?) inactivity on the site on school and work, and while that's true, I still want to put more into the site than I have been. If I'm completely off base, then you guys can argue that, but I think we gotta get this site rolling again.

Thoughts?

In my experience, attempting to bring more people here isn't gonna have much success in the long run. You may get new people joining but its the older folk like us who are more likely to still post after a while. This place is small and it's not connected to anything famous or well known like SF. And... I kinda like the forum the way it is. It's a small community and there's almost no strife. lol, I've only seen a couple of instances where mods would have been helpful.

I know the feeling of guilt for not posting much. I was inactive for... a year maybe. I got over it by just posting more. Even if its sexual coated nonsense. That said, you can't help if other things get in your way of posting. If people really wanna get ahold of you and talk, you have more reliable ways than on here.

I still think we can get that family appeal to it even with larger members.

But again, I want to hear more opinions on it. I DO want to get things more active here. We're kinda down to like 5 active members with maybe 5 more semi-active.

Do you have a proposal other than asking friends to join? I can get people to sign up, but I doubt they'd be active. Most of my friends aren't active on forums like these anymore.

Random people hearing of us and coming has such low odds of working, that the first option would be much better. But I suppose you could advertise on a major gaming site and hope you're not modded for off topicness. Sell the place as you described earlier. A small community of gamers with a wide array of interests. Though alot of people here like SMT and or Tales.

I mostly stopped posting regularly because the community here suddenly felt closed-off (no offence). :/

Later on, I guess my interest just dwindled because no one else was really posting either. I'll try posting more, but this sort of thing needs everyone to be cooperative, so yeah.

I don't know anyone who would want to join or who I would want them to join, though.

One thing that I was thinking about is maybe changing the way we do themes around here. I mean, I don't want to have Kilvas come up with a new theme every month or something. But we get the icons from previous colors and would just get a different banner.

My idea was that for every two months we focus on one or two games that are coming out in the next few months that we would all enjoy. Everyone would vote on a few games that are coming out, and they'd be part of the banner.
For example: We got Pokemon Black and White, and then Dragon Age 2 or something. ((These were just the first two ones I saw on the game release dates and thought they'd be popular.))

I like the idea your trying to do here Lyle, the focus on various games idea would definately allow us to expand our horizon, since we could do polls of the game themes for the coming months.

Yeah. I want to do that. I would rather have our focus be on games coming out, then Shin Megami Tensei and Tales games at this point. I still want that to be our ROOTS, but in times like this where we haven't had a tales game in the states since 2008, and not all that many SMT games lately either, dry times like these are rough.

Granted, Catherine, Devil Survivor 3d and Graces are coming out this year, but who knows how flaky Namco Bandai's gonna be, we can't just simply rely on SMT remakes (Persona 2 and Devil Survivor) to keep activity going.

I'm looking to expand our horizons of gaming to try and accept all types of gaming. From people into RTSes to JRPG fanatics.

Yeah, I think that'd be a fun idea.

My issue is how we'd go about recruiting.

Well, I think my group would help. But I really would like to get all the members active again too.
