Tales of Symphonia help
I have the first ToS game just never really sat down to play it sooo any advice? I do know we lose Kratos and can later on choose between him or Zelos (I'm probably gonna do Zelos)

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
Damn, I haven't played this in a couple years. I do have some advice though:
-Genis and Raine's Unison combo is the best in the game, and it hits so many times that it refills a bit of the unison gauge before the fight resumes
-S or T type doesn't really matter for Lloyd, cause he's awesome anyway. (I prefer T type personally though) Other characters are mostly better being one specific type though if you care enough to play as them
-Presea is better here than in the sequel, but only because she's faster
-Later in the game there is a dragon in the earth dungeon that's AWESOME for grinding cash
-Guardian is your friend against tough bosses who can KO you in one combo or massive attack.
-I find Zelos better than Kratos because he's faster, but he also unlocks alot of costumes for people
-Experiment with compound EX skills, cause some of them are pretty awesome. That or use a FAQ.
and finally, REPLAY this game using grade-bought bonuses. took me about 65 hours to finish it while doing some sidequests.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
Keep Raine in reserve for boss fights. Always have Kratos/Zelos in your part for extra healing. Use Sheena. Love Sheena. Hate Collette.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
Genis/Lloyd/Raine/Sheena is usually my team. It's always done real well.
I say go with Zelos. Kratos is cool and all. But Zelos gets free items from women. Lol.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
I'm gonna pick a bone with ya Lyle. Sheena and all her booby goodness is really impractical compared to the other physical fighter options you have. Her status moves aren't that great and her best moves take up too much TP.
My usual team is Lloyd, Zelos/Kratos/Regal, Raine, Genis.
Keep in mind that Regal can heal later on.

My team is:
Lloyd, Sheena, Other, and Zelos. Other being whomever I feel like it at the time. Usually Presea or Genis.
Unless it's a boss fight, in which case I use Lloyd, Sheena, Raine, and Zelos.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
Good. Make your own team. But those are good starters.
Cept you're kinda forced to 5 characters for the majority of the first part of the game.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
My best team was Raine Lloyd Presea and Genis.
Raine was healing while Presea was the heavy hitter. Lloyd protected Raine and Genis by using his speed and long combos to keep enemies at bay while Genis and Raine cast spells. Genis was the super mage of the group and if everyone was doing fine, raine could cast ray/holy lance a few times.
BTW, as long as you dont learn some moves, you can learn S AND T type moves. Raine's S type buffs (field barrier and whatever her sharpness for the party is) are worthless. Permaguard(her S type barrier) and whatever her S type high level version of Sharpness are single target, but have a real noticable effect on Def and Atk. If you have the patience try having raine learn them, but learn her T type healing moves (healing circle and revitalize)
Genis is the BEST. Use him. T type spells are superior to his S type moves besides Absolute and Prisim Sword. Use genis. Go T type. Love it.

I dont remember HOW you get them, but im sure you can check online. But what you will definetely want to get for characters are:
Concentrate:Genis Raine and Collete-It keeps you from getting hit out of charging a spell
Personal:Lloyd Regal Zelos and whenever its convinient, raine.
Lloyd's makes you move twice as fast while walking around. Definetely usefull.
Regal's makes things in stores cost 10% less, and things you sell sell for an extra 10% gald
Raine's makes her spells cost 1 tp on save points. Switch to her personal, heal the team using only like 2 or 4 tp, then switch back to whatever else it was.
Zelos' makes it where any and every woman in the game will give him items when he speaks to her. This is possibly the most ussefull one in the game, because they will give you money AND usefull items. It wont seem like alot at first, but it builds up. Trust me.
the only thing with zelos is you have to choose. do you want him to be a mage/healer, or fighter? because he cant have both concentrate, AND Super blast. Super blast allows him to use techs after doing a 6 hit normal attack combo. Without that, he can only use artes after the 3rd hit. If you go above that, you cant use artes unless you have super blast. Try seeing what fits your battle style
Re: Tales of Symphonia help
You find exspheres throughout the game. The idea is to equip them onto a character to give them new passive abilities. There are 4 levels, and each level has 4 abilities that vary with the character. Also, everyone can equip up to 4 and they can all be the same one if you prefer. For each exsphere you choose 1 of those abilities to be active at a time.
Depending on the EX skills you use, your character will move in either the S or T direction on their status menu. All this affects is what techs they learn.
Example: Lloyd learns super sonic thrust on S type, and hurricane thrust on T. It's mostly a matter of preference.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
While I'm thinking of it, there's also spell save and rythym EX skills for spellcasters.
First one makes you able to cast immediately after getting hit, and the other lets you mash A to cast faster. It's how I beat the colleseum with Raine and Genis solo

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
yes. im positive you can have Rythm AND Concentrate on GENIS, but im not sure about Raine (i always play as genis so yeah)
I dont think you can have both on raine, but i believe i gave her spell save and speed cast and actually beat Seles in the arena by herself that way

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
I always have Lloyd's personal EX skill (I forget what it's called) or somethin'. The one that let's you move faster in dungeons etc. And Zelos', cuz free items.
Re: Tales of Symphonia help
I remembered I forgot what his Personal did, because I had become so accostomed to it, and I couldn't play it for more than 20 seconds. The thing I had replaced it with was pretty much: 'Battle rape' the EX skill. But I switched it back. IT's that important.

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
I remember there being some good compound skills that involved Personal.
And when I had lloyd's on I had presea as the onscreen character so a little girl was running stupidly fast.

Lol they mostly are haha 3-E currently team is...
Titania
Mist (great healer and finisher)
Mia (has never been better for me. I gave her Adept on 3-P and it activated for EVERY attack!)
Calil
Ilyana (only annoying thing is Speed and somewhat Magic though not really)
Marcia
Jill (only thing is her damned skill pissing me off a little. She's fine with a Silver Axe though)
Elincia
Nephenee
Heather (actually really good. Bane is perfect for her and she is great for mages, swordsman, weakened units)

Re: Tales of Symphonia help
I've always found Heather to be much better than her counterpart Sothe. She might not have as good atk...well, her attack pretty much sucks, but her skill is high and if you use her right, she ends up getting pretty badass with Bane. I've had her promote ONCE and she still has used Bane more times than Sothe has ever in the 10 times I've played RD. I only played it 10 times because for a year the only current system I had was the Wii and there's fuck all else out for it.
