Awesome VG Characters

I got bored in class so I thought about this

Who are your favorite video game characters?
Include stuff like

-Name
-What game/series they are from
-What they are
-Why they are pro

Note: Refrain from talking about non-video game characters, even if they've been in games before.
Characters in books, TV shows, and movies are very different from video game characters because they get a lot more focus on their actions and thoughts, and also because there's a different connection when you are being/interacting with the characters yourself and not merely observing. And stuff.

I'm going to be posting at least one per day because why not. There will be paragraphs, visual aids, graphs etc. They will be monstrous.

Even though they're little more than minions, they have a lot of character. I've been a fan of them since Mario 64, my first actual video game, where they were one of the few enemies that required a little bit of thought to handle (or a backflip).

WHY ARE THEY SO AWESOME?
I dunno. I've always been a fan of the macabre, I guess. And they have a cool laugh. (Which it turns out was Bowser's laugh sped up, as shown in this fairly stupid video)
And the merry-go-round. Oh yes.

They were an absolute terror in the first few Mario Parties. The "ultimate move" was basically to have Boo steal someone's Star for you, which cost about a hundred coins and practically ensured you'd win.

Nintendo seemed to pick up on how awesome Boo was and started putting him in the various spinoffs as PLAYABLE, the first being Mario Tennis.

This was kind of funny because of the opening cutscene, where everyone's setting up to play tennis and then...
Oh no, it's Bowser...
and BOO
WE'RE SCREWED

He eventually was playable in Mario Party as well, but because Boo was too pro to NOT steal everyone's shit, they had a "Pink Boo" do the stealing. Which is weird but w/e.
Boo is great in any minigame that involves punching
GHOSTPOKE

King Boo is doing all right for himself too, but he's not completely pro yet. Not enough cool attacks yet. Give it time.
THIS guy, though...

He appeared in a grand total of one game (Super Mario Galaxy) and is outrageously pro, as you can see.

The future is looking bright dark for booze Boos.
But my all-time favorite Boo moment is...
Running of the Bulb.
A minigame from the first Mario Party. One of those now-deceased "cooperation" games, where all four players work together to get mad coins.
If this is starting to sound a little bit like Left 4 Dead that's because it's a LOT like Left 4 Dead.
One person has a lightbulb which has to be taken to the end of a hall. The other three are his escort, because someone has to beat up the waves of Boos that emerge from the walls. And if a Boo touches you, you become a zombie and turn on your partners. And there are Thwomps falling on everyone the whole time. And you're being chased by a huge Boo, and if HE touches you then you DIE.

And so, in closing,

Back in the year 1989 Phantasy Star II came out, after the success of Phantasy Star I they needed something to keep it going. And that was Nei



Nei is a genertically altered human with Biomonster DNA, or later apreviated as Newman. Nei is only able to be used for the first half of the game (since something happens at the halfway point) but when she is there she is average, it's the reprecutions she had in the series that made her a legend.

Two games later in Phantasy Star IV we are introduced to the second Newman and the final one the Phantasy Star main series.

She was introduced as the product of a 1000 years of genetic enginnering off of the first of her kind. Which since this game is a sequel set 1000 years after PSII means she is the direct descendent of Nei. And boy is she way better than her counterpart. She stays the entire game from when she joins. She may deal less damage then Wren or Chaz but she also has a wide variety of spells that even the mag does not even have. With all the healing spells, and almost all if not all of the buff and debuff spells. Rika basically single handly made the HUnewal in PSO the Jack of All trades character with her decent physical attacks and great damage and magic use.

These two characters got it so that there were classes of Newmans in all of the Phantasy Star MMO styled games after PSIV. Even getting two direct nods in the form of claw type weapons in PSO.

Quick list of why he is awesome:
-Is a player
-Cured cancer by STABBING THE CANCER
-"Uh oh it's Ganondorf he can blow everything up with magic and you saw him kill you in a dream." What's Link's response? "I'LL STAB YOU"
-Is NOT a teenager (We've had more than enough of THOSE, thank you... see "Regular Link")
-ALMOST cured tree cancer
-Instinctively knows how to work a boomerang as soon as he finds one. Have you ever tried throwing a boomerang? I have. It is not easy.
-His only attack spell (which he gets pretty early) is much, much better then most MAGIC USERS' attack spells in other games. And Link is not a magic user - he has billions of HPs and attack powers. Did I mention that he's just a kid
-Rewarded for random acts of destruction. He's actually ENCOURAGED to be a psycho.
-The hookshot, which could be the best item in any game ever. Guns? lolno. Bullets are tiny and don't get ripped back out of you once they're in. The hookshot is not like bullets.
-Carries a bag of bombs. Think about it.
-In fact sometimes he can carry a LADDER and a RAFT...WHILE STILL BEING ABLE TO FIGHT AT FULL POTENTIAL
-Can fall for hours and hit the ground unharmed by rolling a bit.
-Yelling.
-He's a freaking kid. But he's killed so much stuff without a second thought, if he had a trophy room it'd be the size of Death Mountain, and the only reason it wouldn't be Death Mountain is because he can't wear the heat-resistance tunic yet.
-Seriously he looks like he's about to pull a guy's face off

Yuri Lowell:Tales of Vesperia

Why is Yuri awesome? Well, I gotta say, hes one of THE BEST male Jrpg leads I have ever seen. When I first saw him I was like "Lol pussy fag" But hes fucking hardcore as shit. Vesperia rocked my world as I played through the Tale(lol)of Yuri and his happy violent brigade.

-The game starts off with Yuri just sitting in his room, he's looking cool, but that can mislead ppl with anyone. So I was still wary of him. Untill........
-"OH YEEEAAAH. IM GONNA KILL YOU AND CARVE YOUR NAME INTO MY BLOOD"
Yuri:"Yeeeah thats pretty disgusting."
Boss:"Ohhhh yeeeeeah. This is gonna be greeeat~"
Yuri:"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?"
Boss:"Dieeeeeee~"

You fight the following boss a whopping five times throughout the story, and when he finally meets his demise, Yuri, once again, radiates badassery. The boss says something along the lines of "I'll never stop hunting you down!" or something. Yuri then slices him dealing the killing blow, and sends him into a pit as he replies word for word: "THEN DO IT IN HELL." he then, just walks as if nothing happened.

Now im sure you all who havent experienced the magic of Vesperia are worried about "Masu's saying how badass this guy is. Aren't most badasses jerks or have some tragic past or mean to girls/their comrades?"

Well more reasons why Yuri wins:
-First meets female lead. Tries watching her change her clothes.
-First meets Judith (our sex appeal character) and says word for word after she comments about how she loves her silky skin "Im afraid of where my eyes may wander Judy!"
-Has probably the best sense of humor out of all the characters in the game, which is pretty hard because all of them, save rita for backstory reasons, have amazing sense of humor.
-No tragic scaring childhood/past. Here's Yuri's past: I was a knight. It sucked, so I robbed em and quit.

And my favorite, absolute favorite thing about yuri: When bad guys in most RPGs are obviously evil, and get off the hook because of their social standing, the party always just goes "We cant strike them down! We just have to wait for justice to be served!" Well the party does that in Vesperia. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT:

Yuri has 1 quirk:He becomes crazy over our pink haired female lead. Dont think he's got anything else wrong with him. And its not even like, squall from FF8 level annoying how he's like "OMG RINOA I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU I'D KILL ALL MY FRIENDS JUST FOR YOU OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD" hes just like "We gotta save estelle!" and wanted to kick Alexei's ass from the start so.......kill two birds with one stone?

Name: Dogmeat
Game: Fallout 3 (And other Fallout games. I haven't played them though.)

Dogmeat is a Dog. Surprise, I know. It's not only his name that's awesome though. When you first meet him, you find him in the Scrapyard, having taken on 4 raiders all on his own. Remarkably, he has a stunning grasp of the english language, and will understand exactly what you're saying. You learn from him that his master was killed by the raider attack, and he achieved his revenge on those raiders. Now however, Dogmeat lost his master and needs a new one. That's where you come in.

Dogmeat is pro, because he is. He's is as loyal as dogs come, defending you to the death, even at the cost of his own life. He'll indicate any nearby enemies with his growl, and he has the highest perception possible in the game. He'll lead you to enemies, and will even find you weapons and ammo and health items should you ask it of him. In some cases, he's even able to break through Very Hard locks and get you the weapon in there. He can break through gates, (Not that you always want him to, in the case of the Evergreen Mills Behemoth.) and he will always run off into battle at the nearest sign of trouble.

He's weak against stronger melee monsters, like the Deathclaw, or Reaver, or Albino Radscorpion, however, against ranged enemies, he'll charge after them closing the distance within the time of two bullet shots. And then he'll chew the crap out of the bastard.

Dogmeat's loyalty, usefulness, and ability to obsorbe damage like crazy, make him Pro in my book.

Also, he's immortal through re-incarnation.

God Hand

-What they are
Gene is a brawler who got himself into trouble, which resulted in his right arm getting cut, but it was replaced by one of the God Hands.

-Why they are pro
Gene is just...Gene, man. He's a smartass. God chose a smartass to push back an army of vicious, cruel demons. He's witty and cracks humiliating jokes almost all the time, and he has the power to back up his smartassery. Yes, he has the power of God in his right arm. His right arm, the God Hand. Using this, he can perform amazing over-the-top moves and brutally beat up every demon punk he comes across. He can spank (ladies) at mach 3, Dragon Kick your ass into the Milky Way, bust your balls and loads of other amazing things.

Gene is a man of justice who isn't afraid to go the extra mile. I'll let this video do the rest of the talking for me:

I read on Kotaku or something that Louis is the least popular Survivor.
Everyone besides me is obviously on crack.
Louis is the best.

The other Survivors are pretty straightforward, really. They play their characters pretty much exactly how you'd expect (Bill = disgruntled old war vet, Francis = tough guy, Zoey = the chick...although I almost never see Zoey do anything noteworthy). That's not a bad thing, of course.

But I can't come up with a role for Louis...besides "the main character".
I always saw Louis as the main character of Left 4 Dead. He just gives off that feeling, y'know
Apparently he was based on the main character in Dawn of the Dead or something.
Or maybe it has something to do with how he usually talks...

While everyone else is grimly trying to survive (BUNCHA GUNS OVER HERE), Louis is shouting "WEAPONS!!" like he just won the freaking lottery.
It's amazing. It's the apocalypse and he's got more enthusiasm then a motivational speaker (see above quote).
Which is probably why he comes off as the team leader. The whole "insane optimism" kind of reminds me of Lloyd a little bit.
Also his voice becomes incredibly girly when he gets pinned, which is pretty funny.

ALSO

All of his voice responses are much more...intense then the other Survivors'.
(On the PC version I can pull up menus with voice responses I dunno if you got that on Xbox)
Like "laugh". Anyone else will typically chuckle darkly to themselves, but not Louis, oh no.
Always, when the Horde/a Tank shows up, I'm spamming laugh.
Makes me sound like a crazy person. It's awesome.

As Louis, properly timed voice responses are THE BEST THING EVER

This one is going to take some time

Preface:
Although this is all mostly opinion, some opinions can be divisive and I don't want that. So I'm going to try as hard as possible to not say things like,
"Taokaka is the best character in any fighting game ever,
if 'fighting game' is defined as any game in which fighting takes place at some point,
and 'fighting' is defined as any interaction between two things".
I'm not going to say anything like that, I promise.

If, when I saw BlazBlue for the first time, someone had told me that the awesomest character ever was the genetically engineered super weapon, I would have gone "I knew it! It's Arakune isn't it?"
"No? Well then it's Tager! Right?"

IT IS NEITHER

When I did try it for the first time, I knew my main was going to be Arakune.
Seriously it was obvious from the start
It was so obvious that I decided to try some other people first before switching to my inevitable main, at which point I would play as only him forever.
"This Tager guy is pretty cool, but the slowness just isn't my thing," I thought to myself
"I'll try playing as the scary catgirl next."
...
"The drive button lets me...fly around the screen. Huh."
"You know what? I don't think I want to switch characters just yet."

From that point on Taokaka started to become more and more awesome exponentially.
And didn't stop.

Let's start with the basics here
Hoodies are pro. All dark, brooding types know this.
Tao is not dark or brooding, and wears a bright tan hoodie with cat ears in it. And it STILL manages to be dark and brooding enough to shade her entire face, resulting in an awesome creepy expression

Organization XIII? They WISH they could reach the level of hoodie perfection that Tao's got

Secondly: Tao's dialogue.
Out of everything she says:
20% is basic stuff, often about food or sleep, specifically, desiring it.
20% (and this is the important part watch carefully) are quotes that sound incredibly inappropriate when taken out of context.
("My body's all soft. See? See? *horrifying noises*")
20% are quotes that are incredibly inappropriate in any context at all.
("You should eat steamed buns. They'll make your breasts bigger!")
20% are quotes that are the dumbest things to ever be spoken.
("I'm one step closer to being the greatest vigilante ever!"
THE NEXT DAY
"What's a vigilante?")
10% are just sound effects, like "meow" or "drool". Because when Tao drools, she says the word "drool" out loud.
10% are phrases that contain the words "cool" or "awesome". At one point she actually used the phrase "crazy awesome". If this is not enough to convince you of Taokaka's overwhelming win levels, you are Jin Kisaragi nothing will.

Let me do the math for you.
Essentially, everything Tao says is amazing/amazingly hilarious.

In the video game world, a world of cliches and stale characters and plots, THIS IS A VERY VALUABLE TRAIT INDEED.

But...this isn't about the players. This is about Tao's character in the game.

Y'know Hazama? He's awesome.
One of the things that makes him awesome is that he makes fun of everyone and everything. This is a good trait to have.

GUESS WHAT BROS
TAOKAKA DOES THE SAME THING

Her style is different (she's not evil, just stupid), but the effect is the same.
It works in two ways
1. Calling people nicknames ("BOOBY LADY" etc)
2. Ignoring/Not understanding things being told to her
Combined this makes the opponent (or whoever is in the room) look foolish and Tao look even more awesome.
("Maybe you're a crazy person?")
("A flappy thingy came out!")
(etc)

Taokaka's story mode is basically a gigantic string of awesome (if you don't get the true ending that is).
Take everything awesome about Tao up to this point and then add...

uh

This is where it gets hard to describe how amazing Taokaka has become

uhh

Well how about this
Here are just a few of the things that occur in her story mode:

-Tao meets Kokonoe by just wandering around. And Kokonoe is hidden in a secret laboratory billions of miles away 99% of the time.

-Tao reaches Rachel's mansion by just wandering around. And no one knows where it is. There's a chance that it's in another dimension. Again, by wandering around. This confuses Valkenhayn (he said so himself).

-Bad ending: Is arrested (for saying that Noel has small breasts), and then breaks out of jail. This is considered no big deal for Tao to accomplish.

-Bad ending: Tao becomes a robotic superhero. Have I mentioned that Tao is the greatest

-When Tao is given the objective of getting the bounty on Ragna, the true path has her ignoring the request completely.
"Tao's not gonna do something just 'cause she was told to!"
Let me sum that up real quick
>Video game character
>Gets a quest
>Completely ignores it
>WHAT
>That can HAPPEN?

-Tao is revealed to be carrying a plate around at all times.
FIRST OF ALL, that's impressive enough on its own.
SECONDLY, it doesn't appear to break or get damaged. EVEN WHILE SHE'S JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND BEING FIRED OUT OF CANNONS.

-Tao decides that the fastest way to get from the docks (at the top of the city) to her village (at the bottom of the city) is to jump down.

-Tao actually attempts the above jump.
And then falls for several minutes
Hits the ground so hard that she BREAKS THROUGH IT (and calmly observes that the village is passing over her head)
And lands COMPLETELY UNHARMED.

-AND FINALLY
Bang Shishigami Ninpo, Ninja Scrolls Gaiden: The revenge of Tao.
Must be seen to be believed, sadly

Part of what makes Tao great is that while all the main characters are going
"HHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
and trying to kill/rape each other, Tao doesn't really care about anything going on around her.
That's not exclusive to Tao, but she doesn't care SO HARD that you can FEEL IT

Battle intros: Okay guys look
It is not good when the peoples are talking over each other
Then neither can be heard

Good thing Tao has an opening line that fits well in any situation: being asleep.
Bang's "glider" intro + Tao's "I'm asleep" intro = BEST

Sometimes she is asleep for a good THIRTY SECONDS before the fight starts.
When this happens online, even the people who AREN'T huge faggots (IF YOU SKIP THE INTROS YOURE A HUGE FAGGOT) will endure only half of this before giving up.

And of course, "running offscreen and hitting your head against a telephone pole" is probably the best victory pose ever.

Here are some more amazing facts about Taokaka OF WHICH YOU SHOULD BE AWARE:

-Nuclear weapons did nothing to the Black Beast during the war. The Kaka clan was developed to fight the Beast.
Taokaka: Stronger than nuclear weapons.

-Tao's arcade story appears to take place as a dream. The ending scene is her asleep on a hill.
Taokaka: Can defeat every character in the game in her sleep.

-Bang Shishigami is incredibly awesome. There's no question about that. But who do YOU think has touched Litchi's breasts more often, him or Tao?
Taokaka: Manlier than Bang (wait...hold on)

-The Kaka clan can reproduce asexually. Also, Tao has a move called "Almost Becoming Two!"
Taokaka: Wait WHAT

-Tao frequently introduces herself as a "warrior of the Kaka clan", backed up by her profile. This makes sense because she's a bioweapon. But it means that
Taokaka: Her job description is literally "Soldier".

-She doesn't even know the name of the city she lives in under... but she does know what "MP" is.
Taokaka: Plays console RPGs. Did I mention that Tao is the greatest

-She throws bowling balls in combat. And baseballs.
Taokaka: Honorary Scout

-The Kakas are bioweapons. This is worth mentioning again because every angsty amnesiac's greatest wish is that they were born in a test tube. Here is proof that bioweapons can be awesome without being HRRRGH GUNS
Taokaka: I HAVE TO KILL FAST AND BULLETS TOO SLOW

-The Kakas are bioweapons created from the DNA of THE STRONGEST PERSON IN THE WORLD. And Litchi calls her "a being of ultimate power".
Taokaka: indirectly THE STRONGEST PERSON IN THE WORLD.

-Tao attempts to eat Ragna (note: this is the CORRECT choice. The other option causes you to start the next fight with reduced health) and TAGER (in arcade mode).
Taokaka: Remember the beef bowl challenge from Persona 4? Remember what stats you need to finish it? Now think about what Tao's stats must be.

Now you might be saying to yourself, I gave you too much credit you're worthless "there's no possible way Taokaka could be any more awesome, because it's hard to believe someone as awesome as the person that has just been described could even exist, and if she was any more awesome the world would collapse in upon itself in a black hole of awesome".

Ansem: Main enemy of the first Kingdom Hearts.
He is one of those villains that does not have any actual motivation, he is just evil for the sake of being evil.
Which is stupid. No one is really like that. In reality, evil people, if anyone can accurately be called that, don't consider themselves evil.
So villains without motivations are typically not good because they have no substance to them. They are like junk food without any nutritious value at all.

So why is this guy here on the awesome video game characters list?

BECAUSE HE IS AWESOME

The number one reason has to be Billy Zane's amazing voice acting, which is like liquid evil being poured into your ear. Which is awesome.

For a guy with no real motivation, he sure has some amazing lines too.
He could make you give up a task you had no idea what it was in the first place

"WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH"
Uh... I dunno I'm uh... fighting you, the last boss... what am I even doing really
Stopping the Heartless right? Oh god I don't even know

Even his IM JUST EVIL OKAY makes sense considering the fact that he's a Heartless. Cause uh... Heartless are evil, or something.

OKAY LOOK HERE'S THE TRUTH OF IT

THE STORYLINE OF KINGDOM HEARTS IS GRADE A BALONEY

So I ignore it completely and instead focus on the dialogue and stuff.
AND BASED ON THAT ALONE, this guy is awesome.
