Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
I'm putting this here for two reasons:
1) Help people figure out how to think in the world of competitive Pokymanz
2) So everyone can review each other's sets and maybe throw out ideas to improve or gain ideas for their own sets.
What I'm going to do: I'm going to put down the sets and roles for the Pokemon I use in Competitive or PLAN on using/making.
What I hope you will do: Put down your own sets and or comment on others'.
Got it memorized? Here we go.
P.S. If you don't understand any terms, say so. Also, STAB = Same Type Attack Bonus. Using an attack of the same type as you gives you an additional 50% to your attack's Base Power. So using Earthquake(100 Base Power) with a Ground type Pokemon gives you 150 Base Power.

Togekiss #2: Tomodachi!

- Spoiler:
- Type:Normal/Flying
Moves:
Aura Sphere(90 Power Fighting)
Air Slash(75 Power Flying)
Roost
Thunder Wave
Item: King's Rock/Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace (Doubles the chance of extra effects on moves, like Burns from Flamethrower)
EVs: This one has a devotion to EV's in HP, SpAtk, and Speed, with some special defense EVs as well (this is mainly because I used him in-game).
Overview: A common Togekiss set. Simple idea; switch into something that likely won't 2HKO it, use Thunder Wave to cripple it. If I need healing, I'll Roost, then I use Air Slash. Air Slash's normally 30% flinch Rate is jacked up to 60%, and combined with paralysis, I'm going to have one VERY upset opponent. Aura Sphere is there for Pokemon that resist Flying(Rock, Steel, and Electric), and as a plus, it never misses. Choice between Leftovers and Kings Rock is tough for me. Kings Rock gives Aura Sphere the ability to Flinch as well, but Leftovers will would definitely be good, seeing as I want to survive hits.
Togekiss #2: Tomodachi!
- Spoiler:
- Type:Normal/Flying
Moves:
Wish(Heals 1/2 Max HP, but comes at the end of the turn AFTER use)
Air Slash
Light Screen(
Reflect
Item: Light Clay
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Calm(+SpDef/-Atk)
EVs: Max HP, heavy SpDef investment, and some Defense.
Overview: I'll either Lead with him or throw him out after my Lead. Another simple one, and Dual Screener. Switch in(hopefully on a Special Attacker) and takes a hit, throw up the both Screens, then switch to the next pokemon(who benefits from taking half damage from both attack types). Light Clay is the best choice, making Light Screen and Reflect's normal 5 turn lifespan jump up to 8 turns. If the opponent isn't doing much damage to Tomodachi!, then I might use Wish for some healing before passing things on. I chose Wish over Roost because this is a support Pokemon, and this allows it to function as a Healer(especially useful, seeing as I have none so far). If I need I can use Wish to heal another wall low on HP, or just to heal the Pokemon about to switch in. Air Slash is there incase he's trapped or the last Pokemon left and I'm not stuck waiting for Struggle.
Blastoise
- Spoiler:
- Type:Water
Moves:
Rapid Spin
Surf
Iron Defense
Toxic
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Torrent(Boosts power of Water-type moves 50% when at 1/3 HP or less)
Nature: Bold(+Def/-Atk)
EVs: Max HP, heavy Def investment and a sprinkling in SpDef.
Overview: A purely physical Wall and the Rapid Spinner I've been putting off making. I've got other Pokemon to deal with Special Attackers. Idea is to come in on Pokemon that put out Stealth Rock/Spikes/Toxic Spikes. If they're physical attackers, I'll use Iron Defense to gain some leverage, then Rapid Spin away the hazards. Then I'll use Toxic, hitting them or the Pokemon they switch to. If it's a threat, I'll run. If not, I'll stay 'n fight. Toxic also covers Pokemon that will resist Surf.
BiWHEARL!?: Jesus
- Spoiler:
- Type: Water/Normal
Moves:
Amnesia(x2 SpDef)
Curse(x1.5 Atk/Def, x0.66 Speed)
Waterfall
Return
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Simple(Doubles stat modifiers)
Nature: Adamant(+Atk/-SpAtk)
EVs: Heavy investment in HP, decent Atk/Def EVs, and a smidge in SpDef.
Overview: This guy is a straight KILLER. Hopefully I can switch into something that doesn't do too much damage, such as a defensive Wall/Spiker/Support Poke. Once I'm in, I'll usually go for an Amnesia, taking Bibarel from it's fairly fragile self and transforming it instantly into a Special Wall. This is all thanks to Simple, making Amnesia's x2 boost to SpDef now x3 to SpDef! Then I'll use Curse(which now gives me x2 Atk/Def and x0.5 Speed) to make my Atk n Def skyrocket. This now put's my in the position to wreak some real havoc. Those boosts should let me sweep fairly well, and if my opponent doesn't have a Pokemon with Roar or a STABed Super Effective attack, they'll have a problem. If I'm lucky, I can get 2 Curses in, which usually secures a victory on my part. The lack of speed is the biggest problem, but I guess I need SOME sort of weakness. Water/Normal STAB is awesome, since VERY few Pokemon resist that combination( the only one I can think of is Empeleon).

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
Wow, you went more in-depth than I thought you would...
Anyway, I have a suggestion for (another) Bibarel. What about the Super Fang/Brine combination? I know it's SpAtt isn't so great...just a thought though.
And also, I haven't played Pokemon in forever, but I plan on training a ton of Pokemon, but I'll just start with one.
I was thinking about training a Physical Charizard, though I know it's more Special. I was thinking:
Name: Hanz
Nature: Adamant or Jolly
Item: Sirus berry or SE Rock berry. (Dunno the name...)
Moves:
Dragon Claw
Fire Punch
Overheat
Protect
Belly drum? (It learns this through breeding, right?)
So basically, Dragon claw foe Dragons, and those Fire's NV against, Fire punch cuz it's physical and Fire, Belly drum/sitrus berry for Attack boost. Protect cuz I always do Doubles, and Overheat just in case of a Physical wall.
So any suggestions?
ALSO NOTE: I don't EV train.
Whoohoo typed on a wii. Lol.
EDIT: Ok, F.Punchlol instead of F.Fang. But I might still go with Fang cuz finding the shards for Tutors in Platinum is a pain in the ass. D:

I have a great idea for that actually...Anyway, I have a suggestion for (another) Bibarel. What about the Super Fang/Brine combination? I know it's SpAtt isn't so great...just a thought though.
BiWHEARL?!
- Spoiler:
- Moves:
Charge Beam(50 Power Electric. 70% chance to raise SpAtk)
Super Fang
Brine/Surf
Ice Beam
Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Simple
Nature: Modest(+SpAtk/-Atk)
EVs: SpAtk and Speed. Obvious.
Overview: Switch to something else that would like to set up, or even just something with weak SpDef and blast it with Charge Beam. Most switch ins to BiWHEARL?! will likely be water, so that will definitely help. Hopefully Charge Beam's boost will kick in, suddenly raising Bibarel's SpAtk x2, making him a nice sweeper. Brine will be REALLY nice after Super Fang, but Surf would be good for a sweep.

I suggest Jolly so you can get the jump on your enemies. Last thing you want it to be out-sped. However, you could go for Adamant if you run a F.Punch/D.Claw/Substitute/BellyDrum set. Idea is to set up a Sub, the Belly Drum. If you have a Salac Berry, after the Belly Drum and Sub, you can get a speed boost from it and sweep. You could replace D.Claw with EQ though, which would hit multiple enemies in a doubles battle. It's also suggested that when Charizard Subs, you have it's ally use Follow-Me so it stays intact.
In addition, I'll Help you EV train if you want. I have all the power items, and if you give him 10 Carbos and 10 Protein, it'd take me less than 15 minutes to EV train him(power items + pokerus give you 8 EVs in that stat in addition to the EVs of what you kill, so it's really easy).
Moar
Crobat: Coolbat(Kurubato)
- Spoiler:
- Type: Poison/Flying
Moves:
Air Slash
Rain Dance
Toxic
Haze(Eliminates all Stat changes)
Item: Damp Rock
Ability: Inner Focus(Prevents flinching)
Nature: Bold(+Def/-Atk)
EVs: Heavy HP investment, good Def, and a sprinkling in SpAtk.
Overview: This is the Shiny Zubat I found. Unfortunately, it does NOT have a good nature(it excels at Speed and Atk), so I made a set based around it. Since it doesn't have terrible SpAtk, I decided to use that, and boosted it some to ensure it's not a total waste. I made it bulky so it could take a few hits despite it's weak defenses. Because it's a naturally fast Pokemon, I decided not to invest in Speed, as it'll reach the high 200's on it's own. Two purposes. First, it can be my Hazer, coming in to ruin the parade for Pokemon who are sitting on a bunch of stat boosts, like CALM MIND ESPEON, or Curse Snorlax, etc. Second, it gets rid of Sandstorm/Hail/Sunny Day that might be bugging my team, and offers some nice boosts to the legions of water-type Pokemon I have(Vaporeonx2, Gyarados, BiWHEARL?!, Blastoise, Floatzel, Sharpedo) and gives Toxicroak 12.5% healing each turn! Air Slash for STAB and an attack, and she's definitely fast enough to benefit from the 30% flinch rate. Finally, Toxic to leave a mark before switching out.
Toxicroak: 40
- Spoiler:
- Type: Poison/Fighting
Moves:
Poison Jab(80 Power Poison)
Cross Chop(100 Power Fighting. High Crit)
Stone Edge(100 Power Rock. High Crit)
Sucker Punch(80 Power Dark. If the enemy uses an attacking move that turn,Toxicroak goes first)
Ability: Dry Skin(Absorbs Water moves and Rain for HP, takes damage during Sunny Day and x1.5 to Fire moves)
Item: Life Orb( increases Atk x1.3, but takes 10% life per attack)
Nature: Hasty(+Speed/-Def)
EVs: Heavy Speed and Atk.
Overview: A sweeper if I ever saw one. Fighting and Rock make a good combination, and Poison Jab is there for STAB and hitting Grass types, with the added bonus in the slight chance to poison. Sucker Punch is a great move that overlooks his mediocre speed and gives him the jump on the Psychic types who obviously think they're gonna have easy pickings on his x4 weakness.
P.S. He's named 40 because he was the 40th Toxicroak I bred for Natures and IVs, and one of the only two who got good IVs(40 and 26).
Miltank: Lon-Lon(Ran-Ran)
- Spoiler:
- Type: Normal
Moves:
Milk Drink
Body Slam
Heal Bell
Stealth Rock
Ability: Scrappy(Let's Normal/Fighting moves hit Ghost Types)
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Impish(+Def/-SpAtk)
EVs: Max HP, a dusting of Atk, and the rest into Def.
Overview: Another Support Pokemon. This is mainly because all my Diamond Pokemon are offensive... Anyways, she can take big hits on the physical side and use Milk Drink to shrug of the damage. This lets her switch into physical attacks easily, set up Stealth Rock, and then start annoying the enemy. Body Slam is used over Return for the 30% Paralysis, which will really annoy sweepers. Heal Bell is a GREAT move to have on your team, and because Miltank is so bulky, she can easily pull it off(Heal Bell removes statuses from ALL pokemon in your party). Pretty straightforward and USEFUL.
Yanmega: Sharingan
- Spoiler:
- Type: Bug/Flying
Moves:
Bug Buzz (90 Power Bug)
Air Slash
Shadow Ball
Giga Drain
Ability: Tinted Lens(Not Very Effective moves do double their normal damage*[look for second spoiler for more info])
Item: Choice Specs(SpAtk is x1.5, but locked into the same attack until switched out)
Nature: Modest(+SpAtk/-Atk)
EVs: Max Speed and SpAtk
Overview: Another Sweeper. Decent Speed and massive SpAtk combined with one of the best abilities ever makes for one deadly Choice Specs user. Tinted Lens gives it an easier time with predicting switch-ins. Since it's a sweeper, it's pretty basic. Bug Buzz is the main attack, doing massive damage to everything even at neutral, and massacring anything weak to it. Air Slash is for fighting type and has good coverage itself, along with flinching bonuses. Shadow Ball hit's Ghosts and Psychic's silly enough to switch in. Giga Drain hits Rocks/Grounds/Waters(120 Power with one weakness, 240 against common Rock/Ground Pokemon) pretty hard, and has the added benefit of healing any damage he's taken. A great Poke if I ever saw one.
- Spoiler:
- When moves are Super Effective, the Power of the move doubles, not the damage; i.e. Earthquake goes from 100 power to 200 power against Poison types, but 50 Power against Grass Types. Tinted Lens doesn't effect that, but doubles the damage of the attack(basically, it's a Not Very Effective critical hit).
Starmie: Shuriken
- Spoiler:
- Type: Water/Psychic
Moves:
Surf
Psychic
ThunderBolt
Ice Beam
Ability: Natural Cure(Status problems are healed upon switching out)
Item: Life Orb/Choice Specs/Choice Scarf(Doubles Speed, locks into one move)
Nature: Timid(+Speed/-Atk)
EVs: Max Speed n Special Atk.
Overview: Yet another Sweeper. These guys are easy to make! Come in after someone dies or on something it resists, then blast away. Surf and Psychic are Stab, and work well enough to give good coverage with each other. Ice Beam demolishes Dragons that ruin parties all the time, and Thunder Bolt kills other Waters(especially Gyarados), with both of them taking out all kinds of Flying types. Item choice is preference/availability. Life Orb lets me choose whatever move I want, giving me some versatility at the cost of HP. Choice Specs lets me have massive SpAtk to go with my Speed increasing nature and wreck teams, or I could go with a Choice Scarf and almost guarantee the opponent will go after me, making it a great "revenge killer"( a fast Pokemon used to kill the Pokemon that killed your previous one), at the cost of some power.
Curselax: Kato Ki!
- Spoiler:
- Type: Normal
Moves:
Body Slam
Earthquake
Rest
Curse
Ability: Thick Fat(Halves Fire and Ice damage)
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Brave(+Atk/-Speed)
EVs: 100 HP, Max SpDef, remaining in Def
Overview: The standard Curselax, and the bastard I'm most familiar with losing to. Snorlax will come in on a SpAtker, and Curse while he laughs at the pitiful damage they do to him. By the time they switch, it'll be too late; Curselax has emerged. With his x1.5 to Def, what is normally a terrible stat has no risen to alright, and soon, good, and immediately following, god. With 2-3 Curses under his belly, the opponent will have a hard time trying to get him out of the game unless they have a Hazer or Roar/Whirlwind user to get him off the field. After 2 Curses Snorlax can use Rest basically worry free. Body Slam is for STAB and has good coverage, only failing to hit Ghosts, Steels, and Rocks. EQ can hit Rocks and Steels for super effective, but there might be some trouble since some of have the Levitate. Otherwise, and this guy is an absolute monster.

K, cool. I'll go with Jolly. I'm kinda skeptical about substitute though. I usually never works out for me, except with my Umbreon. so I think I'll go with protect instead of Substitute.
So now I have:
Jolly, Sitrus berry, Protect, F.Punch. (F.Fang if I get fed up with shard hunting...), Dragon claw, and Belly drum. I'm trying to use as little TMs as possible, so I'll go with Dragon claw instead of Earthquake, since I can breed Charmanders with DC.
And if you'd help with EV training, that'd be great. But I'd rather not have my Pokemon have pokerus. And I don't won't to trouble you too much, So I can stick with Steroids. Another thing that bothers me about EV training is that Pokemon are left so vulnerable in one stat, Like, let's say I had a Jolteon. It was EV trained in SpAtt and Speed, leaving it's Defenses crap. now I know Jolteon has a bad defense to begin with. but I'd rather have all-around pokemon that can survive awhile rather that godly-powerful pokemon that can't take a hit. But that's just me...
Anyway, moving on...
- Spoiler:
- 'Bout your Poke's:
Crobat:
It's an interesting Crobat..I don't have much to say about it. Good water supporter.
Toxicroak:
I've always thought an all attacking moveset was a bad idea...I like having at least one move that doesn't attack. But that's just me, it is a good moveset. Or you could do Taunt/Sucker punch.
Miltank:
Sems pretty good. I don't have anything to add here..
Yanmega:
If it were me, I would get rid of Giga drain. I like to do Detect/Speed boost. I don't see Giga drain working very well for Yanmega. I'd give it either Hypnosis or Tailwind for support.
Starmie:
The typical Starmie. I don't have anything to add, though again, I'm not a fan of all-attack movesets.
Snorlax:
Typical snorlax. Though if you run into a Gengar, you're screwed. But you'll have something else on the team anyway.
My turn! My turn!
My Abyss Team, I was thinkin':
- Spoiler:
- Luke - Charizard - Modest/Timid - Blaze - Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Dragon Pulse, Air slash, Protect, Heat wave
Another Charizard, a special one though. It's hard to choose what to give it..D:
Tear - Gardevoir - Modest - Synchonize - Psychic, Signal Beam, Charm, Healing Wish
I know charm and healing wish sem a bit strange, but I wanted it to be different than my other Gardevoirs. So that was all I could come up with.
Guy - Gallade - Jolly - Steadfast - Leaf Blade, Psycho cut, Destiny Bond, Close Combat.
Yep, Close combat cuz it's easily abused, and the lowered stats'll help with Destiny bond.
Jade - Manectric - Timid - Static - Flamethrower, Thunder bolt, protect, signal beam, Thunder wave, discharge.
Manectric's movepool is fairly limited...I'm not sure about signal beam, Since Tear was gonna have it. But Thunder wave is always good to have.
Anise - Ursaring? Jynx? Still not sure what to make Anise...
Natalia - Persian - Jolly - Technician - Fake out, Bite, Fury swipes, Hypnosis.
I liked this moveset, and it's ability helps with Fury Swipes. Just need to watch out for sharpedos..lol.
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
1) I can understand your concern EV wise, but just giving them stats all around is rather wasteful. Lot's of Pokemon have a role that they are best suited for, and it kind of defeats the purpose of their stats being different if you just throw the point around willy nilly. Example, a Jolteon with 25 more Def/SpDef/HP is almost just as frail as a Jolteon without those boosts. The only thing it'll save you from is a defensive pokemon, who you could be obliterating with said defensive pokemon with the +64 SpAtk points you would have had. Try and use pokemon for what they are best at.Komachi wrote:

2) What's up with Pokerus? It gives you double EV growth, and Nurse Joy even says "Oh hey, Pokerus is cool! It makes your pokeymanz strong!", so I wouldn't think it's you thinking it's "bad for your pokemon"...
I use all attack movesets because they are SWEEPERS. Sweepers are pokemon who's designated role is for attacking. Protect does me little good when I'm locked into using it until I switch out, and Protect doesn't help Toxicroak at all, who would much rather use Sucker Punch to make sure he goes out taking a big chunk of HP with him. Protect is useful for doubles, yes, but I play Singles. The only use for Protect there is for Stalling pokemon and Ninjask. It's a waste on just about everyone else.Anyway, moving on...
Toxicroak:
I've always thought an all attacking moveset was a bad idea...I like having at least one move that doesn't attack. But that's just me, it is a good moveset. Or you could do Taunt/Sucker punch.

Charizard - Heat Wave/Dragon Pulse/Air Slash/Blast Burn
That gives it, I think, Perfect coverage. Blast Burn is there to use in a fashion similar to Explosion, but it can be overruled by the Protect you love so much. Heat Wave over Flamethrower because you play doubles.
Gardevoir - I suggest Thunder Wave>Charm. Thunder Wave will ensure your opponent goes last so you can make sure you get your healing wish, unless you mean to force switches with Charm.
Gallade - Seems nice enough. I really suggest you at least EV this one in Speed and Attack, cuz Close Combat will ruin your hopes of it defending anyways...
Manectric - Flamethrower/Thunderbolt(or Discharge, preference)/Charge Beam/Protect
Charge Beam on something weak that you'll kill with it, and hope for a boost. Protect is there cuz... cuz Kilvas.
Definitely make Anise an Ursaring.
Persian - Fury Swipes seems like a generally bad idea with it's 80% accuracy AND sporadic damage... However, I would recommend Aerial Ace, which would benefit from the Technician boosts, and combats fighting types.

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
I'd just rather not use Pokerus is all.
I never said Protect for Toxicroak..D: I suggested Taunt..
Anyway,
Luke - Cool. I guess he's all figured out then. Imma go with Modest. I'll figure out the item later on.
Tear - I want to avoid using Thunder Wave as a TM...Cuz it's a pain to get. I try to avoid using TMs I can't buy or get easily, unless I can breed the pokemon to know it. I'll give Thunder Wave to Jade. But probably not Tear.
Guy - Yeah, Imma EV train this team. So he's all done.
Jade - Only thing that bother me is Charge Beam. Unless I can breed one with it, I probably won't end up giving it.
Anise - Adamant - Flame Orb - Guts - Facade, Protect, Earthquake, Faint Attack? (It can learn this, right?)
Protect for the F.Orb/Guts/Facade. Everything else just cuz.
Natalia - Well I wanted Fury Swipes for the ability and STAB. I fought a Persian once that did pretty well with it. I could go with Areial Ace, But I'd rather have a Normal move like Return, if not Fury Swipes.

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
I was using the Protect on Toxicroak as a reference to your love of protect. The general idea was that a Pokemon who's role is to attack shouldn't be having a support move, especially since Toxicroak is frail.
Also, I suggest Rock Slide>Faint attack on Ursaring. Rock/Ground combo gives incredible coverage.

Ah, I see. Nevermind then. D:
I only love Protect so much cuz I only really do Doubles. And I PokeWifi on BattleRev alot. Where it is much needed.
K, cool. I'll go with that. If I can get a Rock Slide TM easily.
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
It learns Rock Slide or Stone Edge, jsyk

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
Persian and Steelix. Movesets/EV's. What do i pick n such?
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
My Recommendations, though I can't help with EVsPokenovice Masu wrote:Persian and Steelix. Movesets/EV's. What do i pick n such?
Persian:
Singles Persian: Return, Hypnosis, Faint Attack, and probably Arieal Ace cuz Desu-sensei says so.
Doubles Persian: Hypnosis, Confuse Ray (pretty sure it can learn this...)If not, then Bite with Technician, Protect
Steelix:
Singles Steelix:
Earthquake, Iron Tail, Explosion with Cutsap berry, and crunch. Or Endure to ensure the Explosion.
Or, to stall.
Toxic, Roar, Stealth Rock, Protect.
Doubles Steelix:
Protect, Earthquake, Iron Tail (Or Gyro ball if you have Trick room goin' on), Crunch.
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
By learn, I mean it can learn the move from TMs.PokeTrainer Kilvas wrote:What? No it doesn't...I just checked..Pokemastr Lettuc wrote:It learns Rock Slide or Stone Edge, jsyk

Oh, well yeah I knew that. I thought you meant LV up...D:Pokemastr Lettuc wrote:By learn, I mean it can learn the move from TMs.PokeTrainer Kilvas wrote:What? No it doesn't...I just checked..Pokemastr Lettuc wrote:It learns Rock Slide or Stone Edge, jsyk
But I can get Earthquakes easily, but not Rock Slide. So I might end up going with EQ. I'm trying to avoid using too many TMs.
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
Persian can't learn confuse ray.
I suggest(with Technician):
Fake Out
Faint Attack
Return
Hypnosis/Aerial Ace
EVs: Atk + Speed maxed.
Steelix, your best approach is, as Kilvas said, a stall set.
Stealth Rock
Roar
Toxic
Earthquake
EVs: HP + SpDef Maxed.
I suggest Earthquake over Protect because only having Toxic to deal damage could leave you boned if your opponent's last Pokemon is Steel or Poison, which EQ destroys.
UPDATE:
Persian's Atk is only 10 points higher than SpAtk, but IT LEARNS NASTY PLOT(swords dance for special attack).
New Moveset:
Nasty Plot
Swift
Dark Pulse/Water Pulse
Shockwave
EVs: Speed + SpAtk
Combined with Technician, this is an awesome set. Shockwave never misses AND is 90 power. Water pulse also goes to 90 power. Swift, which unfortunately has to be learned from a tutor, is 135 power when your factor in STAB and Technician.

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
It can't? Ah well, coulda sworn it could've.
Anyway, yeah, there's your Steelix pretty much.
Oh Desu. I wish to train you as a Pokemon as well. What do you wanna be?
Oh? Ok, if I had a special Persian: Nasty plot, Dark pulse, Swift, and if you can/know how to change Hidden powers type, I'd say make it either Rock or Fighting. If it's doubles, Icy Wind.

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
Also, here's my Hitmontop idea.
Hitmontop: Revenge
Moves:
Fake Out
Mach Punch
Sucker Punch
Quick Attack
Ability: Technician
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Def
Nature: Adamant(+Atk/-SpAtk) or Brave(+Atk/-Speed)
Overview: Super ultimate revenge killer. When it comes in, Fake Out basically gives me free damage, then I follow up with the move that will hurt the most. Mach Punch is a 90 power Fighting attack with Technician and STAB, and Fake Out/Quick Attack are 60. Life Orb is preferred, as it gives me more power, but leftovers is always an option since he's slightly bulky. Best used to come finish someone off, but I'm sure it's capable on it's own.
Also, I dunno what I'd wanna be. Probably a Mixape(Infernape that uses both Special and Physical).

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
Oh, I got a feeling you were gonna say either Seaking or Charizard. Lol. But ok.
And nice Hitmontop, can't really add much to it. Wait, why have Quick Attack AND Mach punch? I don't see the point in that. Get rid of Quick Attack. I'd give it Ariel Ace like Zero did.

Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
OH FUCK YEAH. SEAKING. MAKE ME SEAKING.
Also, my Hitmontop is a priority Hitmontop. The idea is to completely bypass it's mediocre speed(and all other Pokemon's speed, for that matter) to attack first. This makes it one of the best finishers/revenge killers because it will ALWAYS go before the enemy that killed my last pokemon. Example: You switch in a Roserade on my Gyarados that used Waterfall, only doing about 2/5 of your HP. you KO next turn with a critical Energy Ball. Hitmontop comes in, uses Fake Out, taking a huge chunk of your HP, and just barely short of a KO. Next turn, Mach Punch/Quick Attack. Winnar.

I understand that. But couldn't you use the move slot for something else? It just seems kinda wasteful to me to have 2 moves that do the same thing, one of then even gets STAB.
Re: Pokemon Discussion: Movesets, Stat Distributions, and Roles.
It's for coverage. Let's me hit Flying/Poison. Though, I might go with Bullet punch instead of Quick Attack, but I'm afraid of being stuck by pokemon like Tentacruel n Zapdos. The only pokemon that resist Normal are Rock, Steel, and Ghost. Mach Punch grabs two of those for super effective, and Sucker Punch grabs the Ghosts. Quick Attack can hit the Flying/Poisons that Mach Punch doesn't.

Well not every pokemon's gonna cover/counter everything. But I see your point.Pokemaster Desu wrote:It's for coverage. Let's me hit Flying/Poison. This Hitmontop IS meant to hit everything for neutral though, so it kills weakened foes.

Ah, I see.
Also, question. If Charizard used Dig, would Earthquake hit it underground? Is it like Roost?

He wouldn't. But dig/fly/dive are generally bad options in competitive...
