Persona 4 RP Phase 2

"All right this game's my own design so it's actually quite a bit different from regular squash. Instead of bouncing the ball off the same wall we use all four walls, the ceiling and the floor. The room is also slightly larger and divided into tiles. When the ball hits a tile it'll change color, red for me blue for you. A tile can only change color twice. Whoever has the most wins. Simpler rules than regular squash but more difficult in terms of processing and controlling where you need the ball to go. You get all that? Oh yeah! I wouldn't let the ball touch you either those teeth look pretty nasty."

As if to verify this the ball begins to snap wildly at Kentaro.

"No." answered Karin. "We can't simply rely on our Pesonas. And besides," she stood up and retook her stance, "I want to..." Huh? What was I ust about to say?

"Want to what, Karin?" asked Tamaki. Karin furiously shook her head and charged forward.

"I want to prove myself to you, Aniki!" she shouted as their shinai's clashed.

"Is that so?" Tamaki said before giving a dangerous smile, "That sounds like a lie." He immediately kicked Karin in the stomach, knocking her back from him.

"And your second card?" asked Mai.

"Huh. Any stakes I should know about?" She asked Kentaro.

"Okay! I'm back..." Dahni held a volleyball. "This was the only thing I could think of that I'm really familiar with...Well, game systems, but that would be hard to fight with..."

"Just your life I suppose. I take no responsibility for any injuries caused by the dungeon. You know, play at your own risk, keep an eye out for sudden changes, and don't let the ball eat you."

Kentaro pulls up a hologram display in front of himself and makes a few selections. Several small meters and text boxes appear in his line of vision. He also checks a small heart monitor attached to his arm before turning to face Amy.

"You ready?"

"When you are." She nodded.

"Here it comes."

Kentaro smacks the ball as hard as he can sending it flying straight at Amy.

"Tetrakan!" Amy shouted, the ball hit her, deflecting and bounced off the ceiling.

"Alright let's try this. Persona!"

Kentaro moves in to strike the ball.

"Here I go! Yeea--aargh!!"

Instead of striking the ball Kentaro is thrown back by an unseen force. He lies on the ground with small sparks coming off his body.

"Urgh... Gotta make a few adjustments..." He groans as he pulls himself to his feet and looks at his holographic display.

"I guess it's your serve." He says as the ball floats over to Amy's side of the court.

"..You okay?" She asked, putting on a pair of steel gauntlets.

"Well...if we're done here.." Maeko said, dusting her self off as she started to walk back inside.

"Don't worry about it. Ready when you are." Kentaro waits for the serve.

"Okay." She punched the ball with her gauntlet, sending it at the wall. It bounced off and headed for Kentaro.

"That's fine," Tamaki said, "these two look like they could use some help anyway."

"..." Karin remained silent as she got back on her feet.

"Shut it!" Masuyo shouted as he tried to punch Tamaki

"..Help with what?" Dahni asked, stepping out of Masuyo's way.

"Fighting obviously. What do you think we're doing?" Masuyo asked as Tamaki easily dodged his punch. "Fuck!"

"..Why?" She asked.

"Okay if you're asking why we're training just stay outta the way." Masuyo said as he signaled for Karin to go at Tamaki


"Jack of spades." Tsubasa said drawing her second card.

This time Kentaro moves much more easily. He returns the serve bouncing it off of the tiles that Amy hit turning them red. The two of them begin volleying the ball back and forth both of them keeping up as the ball moves faster and faster.

"Waah!" Kentaro screams in surprise and jumps back as a large claw reaches up from the floor from one of Amy's tiles and tries to grab him. He barely recovers in time to smack the ball as it flies inches from his face.

"Watch out! It looks like we can't stand on tiles of the opposite color."

"Alright then," Shinta picked up two cards, "3 of clubs and 9 of hearts. Okay." This is way to simple. What's she up to?

"I agree. Besides," Karin said as she charged at Tamaki, "for you, who would previously insult Aniki's honor, to recieve training under his supervision without even a gesture of gratitude or apology is something I cannot accept."

Tamaki swatted the sword from Karin's hand and placed his at her throat. Karin trembled for a moment before jumping back and grabbing her shinai. "Not yet." She charged at Tamaki and swung with all her might. "HYAAAH!"

"This...can't be right." said Shinta in disbelief. It had been an hour into the game but neither he nor Tsubasa had even one pair. I've been following the picks from the start, so why haven't I gotten a match? No. Even without that, one of us should have at least one match by now. What's going on here?

Mai chuckled at the sight of Shinta's frustration, "What's wrong? You seem distraught."

Shinta took a deep breath and sighed, "...It's nothing." So that's what it is.

"Woah! W-what kind of game is this?" Amy yelled.


"..Is fighting him the best way to try and improve our skills?" Dahni put a hand to her forehead. "Sorry. No offense, but I don't get how a gang member exactly counts as a martial artist. What makes him so qualified?"

"Alright, I'm heading out for a bit." Maeko said. "Thank you for the training Chisaki." She said bowing. She went inside and packed up her fishing gear, proceding to head out of the apartment complex.

"I told you. The game is simple, but the dungeon is adding to it! Hya!"

Kentaro smacks the ball back and dodges another claw. He is losing ground as more and more of the floor tiles turn blue.

"Hes better than you at fighting. Thats what makes him qualified." Masuyo said as he shouted "Gotcha!" at Tamaki without even moving to fake him out and make him face his direction so Karin would have a better chance at landing a clean hit

"Hah!" Amy ducks the ball as it heads for her, it hits the wall behind her giving Kentaro another tile. The ball bounces back and she hits it up toward the ceiling.

"..Okay I guess." She mumbled. Something about this guy just rubs me the wrong way. And the way Karin acts over him is just sick. She began giving herself some distance between them. "...Alleyoop!" She tossed the volleyball in the air and as it came down she punched it, missing Tamaki by a considerable margin. "....I guess I have to work on my aim."
