Pokemon Black & White

OK, recently I've been doing some lurking, and I've found that despite what we all originally thought, B/W is a legitimate game, and I believe they did an amazing job with it.

First off, I believe this topic needs some music. The name of it has "spoilers", but honestly guys; it's pokemon. We don't play it for "story".

Anyways, though most of the pokemon do look... kinda unfitting, looking through at their final evos(the only ones that really matter), I've found that their designs fit for the most part.

The stat distribution on most pokemon are fairly good as well. The new abilities and moves fit in too, and lots of OLD pokemon were given VERY nice new tricks with the addition of DREAM WORLD ABILITIES. I'm not exactly sure how this works yet, but I've gotten a lot of info from Smogon's "Uncharted Territory" sub-forum. Here are a few notable things for you competitive battlers.

Ninetails got Drought. For those of you who don't know, this used to be a Groudon Exclusive ability. It brings out permanent sun., like Sandstream.

Politoed got Drizzle. Which was Kyogre's ability before. Same as Drought, but with rain instead. Yeah. Weather teams just got a LOT more effective.

And, very noticably, ALL starters now have access to DIFFERENT ABILITIES. That's right. And they aren't the same, either. Blaziken gets Speed Boost(boosts speed every turn), Charizard has Solar Power(lose 1/8th Hp in sun each turn for 50% SpAtk increase), Infernape got Iron Fist(Increase all punch attack damage by 20%), Blastoise got Rain dish(Restore 1/16th Hp in rain), Swampert gets Damp, etc, etc. It's getting crazy in here.

Another thing. B/W has added FULL ANIMATIONS throughout the battle sequence. The pokemon are no longer just sprites moving up and down. They have actual movements and faint animations from the looks of it.

Really, I can't say much right now in the post, but I'd like you guys to check out the Smog forum. just look around, see what your fave pokemon are capable of now, or find favorite new ones( the Fire/Bug Uragamosu really has my eye). If you have new sets or ideas or just want to talk about it, discuss!!

P.S. - Random vid of a Wifi battle for B/W. This guy is actually pretty good, but the main attraction is just seeing the animations and game in action.

good stuff. I guess this dispels some of the worries i had about the game. im looking foward to playing now.

I'm sure it's a great game, I still plan on buying it. I'm just dissapointed in some of the new pokemon. Lol.

Yeah, but I do like some of the Dream World abilities. I may hold off training on a few pokemon so I can get them with a Dream World ability.

And alot of the new abilites and attacks are pretty interesting too.

Has a much more aesthetically pleasing team builder, with colors, descriptions of moves, as well as a built in pokedex. Includes all 5th Gen pokes. You have trainer sprites, and win/loss messages, and can even opt for music while battling.

Can I say something off topic, when I see it being called Pokemon Black and White I keep thinking back to l4d since I keep thinking that the pokemon will get killed the next time a wild boomer appears.

Also they need to make a boomer a pokemon.

It works really well. I've been using a few of the 5th Gen pokes. So far my favorite is the Deer. Herbivore eats all grass moves, including leech seed and stun spore n what not.

Pokemon like Infernape and Espeon are serving me well too. Frickin magic Mirror espeon is so broken. reflects back ALL sorts of status effect. leech seed, confuse, Sleep power, STEALTH ROCK, TAUNT. Broken

I always liked magic mirror, but I've never seen it used competitively before.

Magic Mirror is new. It's an ABILITY that does this. Automatically. It's going to be the sole reason for Espeon's Rise to OU

Just so everyone knows, the Sea Turtle pokemon is a fuckin BEAST.

This sounds weird and stupid, but bishop, make me a team. As you know, the best way for me to actually get hype/into something is to actually try it. If you could make a random team for me and just send me the file I can try it before work today. Its also a good way to expose me to moves/abilities I dont know about (but still plzzzz let me have espeon lol)

I'll try, but it's hard to really find one that will fit this metagame
