How good have you gotten at tales games?

WARNING: TLDR AND TALK OF HIGHER DIFFICULTIES. IF YOU HAVE PLAYED ABOVE NORMAL MODE THE WHOLE GAME THROUGH, DISREGARD WARNING, AS THAT MEANS YOU WILL ACTUALLY LIKE THIS TOPIC




I noticed something, over the years, i've gotten much much better at these. At the start I would be like "OOMG ITS A BOSS I WILL RUN AT IT WITH SWORD IN AND AND CUT TILL IT DEAD!!!!!!!" which results in using 10+ life bottles in one battle. If you mindlessly do this, you suck, GTFO.

The main reason i thought of this, was because I played ToV 2 years ago on the 360. Everything would kick my ass. Zagi,Barbos,Schwan,Baitojouy,Alexei, EVERYTHING (but the

battle where you have the full party. that fight is a joke. I was always using life bottles, or switching to Estelle to make her use ressurection or regenerate. Always getting negative grade after boss fights, barely getting grade in normal battles, and saying stuff like "Whats a fatal strike?" in part 3 of the game. I was el garbage.

I also never utilized the AI strategy, which is actually pretty bad on higher difficulties, because you have to have specific people do specific things. Karol takes a millennium to get across the screen,so you dont want him set on "Do whatever you want" or "Attack different enemies" because enemies always run away, and unless its an Entelexia or Giganto, karol cant keep up. Instead you should have Karol attack the same enemy as you since, 1.While you're holding it still, he can actually reach it, and even if you knock it down, Karol SPECIALIZES in beating up downed enemies, a very nice remedy to the fatal issue with tales, having multiple people beat on an enemy, the one knocks it over and everyone is like "Dude wtf"

I came to the realization that Im actually getting better last night, after the last Zagi battle. When I was about to fight him I was like "Goddamit I remember getting game over in normal on the 360 version all the time, god forbid now im on the JP version on hard." Kicked.The.Living.Shit.Outta.Him. There was ONE death, and that was Yuri, because he has absolute SHIT defense. On top of that, it was from his Hi-ougi, so go figure. Other than that, the fight was "Hey Zagi, this is patty's knife and Flynn's sword. Get to know em. Love em. Cuz you're gonna be REAL close to them in a few seconds." After that i thought about it, aside from Alexei (who is supposed to be a bitch cuz hes kind of the boss of an end act) I didnt have trouble with anyone else in the game outside of Schwan. Hell,

when it was just Yuri only beat me 6 times. Thats a much better track record than what Bishop and I had in the 360 version (And before anyone says anything, the difficulty was unknown all ya normal mode players). Yeager was really tough, but I didnt get game over against him, it was just a long hard battle, but that makes sense. Yeager is MEANT to be a challenge (on top of having his HP doubled in the PS3 version)

You guys (other than bishop) have no idea, how technical and in depth the battle system of vesperia is. Theres TONS of extra aspects about lots of the artes you will never find out unless you research online, and of course, those extra aspects lead to longer and better combos. And not even just longer combos, but the moves themselves will change if you press certain buttons during certain points of the moves, which open up more options for falling back to stay safe, starting a completely new fresh combo and being able to use more artes, and all sorts of other things. And you all wont get this luxury, but with the addition of fuckin flynn, you can combo, INTO casting magic instantly if he's nearby. Permanent.Partymember.For life.

Speaking of parties, sometimes you gotta experiment. Parties that seem like they shouldn't work, work most of the time in vesperia. Like, a party of all mages+Karol seems terrible because Karol is slow and unable to switfly help the mages should they get into danger. Well, it works. Reaper Knock+Mighty Charge= enemies across the screen are sent flyin. And if he's nearby, well he has all sorts of moves that hit all around him. On top of that, just give the mages the right equipment, and unless you're a diehard raven fan, let raven be a CPU. Hes a great CPU mage, unlike Estelle and sometimes rita (stop using spiral flare bitch)

Another party that seems like a no-no is Yuri,Judith,Repede and Karol. All fighters, no magic, no healing. So it seems, but Karol has Nice Aid/Curing/Healing/Recovery smash at his disposal. This works even better in boss battles, because since theres usually only one enemy, the team will be grouped together. Karol can get the entire party with ease like this, with none of that casting time mumbo jumbo estelle has to do. Its slightly better than raven's love shot as it heals 4x as much as it does, and doesn't have to travel across the screen. (Though of course, raven is still a good healer, i benched estelle the entire game and had raven as a healer) The only major drawbacks is that they dont know any resurection artes, but estelle 1.Takes a year to cast it, and 2.Never uses it anyways. So you arent missing much.

So yeah, im pretty sure I scared off a few people with all of this shit, but who cares. I wanna talk strategy and how you keep yourself from being "Eh" or just bad at the game.I WANT REAL CONVERSATION. MAYBE EVEN A (logical) DEBATE DAMMIT

Well, If anyone else posts they could debate why Normal is cool or something. Lol.

Also we could debate party set ups. Im sure we use different parties

Karol - Raven - Repede - Rita
Karol and Rita attacking the same enemy works well, because lots of her magic(read VIOLENT PAIN and BLOODY HOWLING) hits downed enemies really easily.
Repede is easily the fastest character in the game, and he can easily keep enemies in stun lock, making Raven and Rita's jobs easier. Especially if you program him to protect allies in trouble.
Raven serves as a healer(Karol is back-up), as well as a mage. Also, Dark Chase. Nuff said.

I dunno, i've tried having repede, im not too fond of him. Hes really fast, but he goes down way too easily. I've had him to help out spell casters but he always just gets wrecked by 2 enemies at the same time and dies. I put Judith on helping allies since she can use moon something to automatically hit whatever enemy she's targeting where ever they may be on the screen. That and shes alot more durable than repede.

I usually do Raven, Yuri, Rita, Karol, I love this combination it works very well for me on the higher difficulties, though usually its Rozen controlling Raven. I prefer to play on harder or higher to be honest, Normal is just too easy in my mind.

Judith is great, but Repede's AI is better IMO. Judy can't seem to utilize her moves well at all

From my experiance Judith HAS to be controlled by a human to be anywhere near useful.

Also the game that gave me a concept of how hard a game can be is Destiny Remake.

Judith does fine for me. All repede EVER does is "Attack attack attack cresent fang ITEM FUCKING STEAL" ALWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYS. He had a shit ton of moves I didnt even know he had when i controled him because he NEVER uses anything else.

Pro tip - turn off item steal. That's how I got Rita to stop using crappy spells like Crim Flare

I never really used Repede, aside from unlocking his artes.

Well, i'd love to, but him making me nearly die alot got me materials i needed for synthesis, so its like, "Hmmm..........is it worth it."

In the end, I just boot him for Patty

Honestly I sometimes forget Repede exists cause I rarely use him once I have a replacement, mainly to get items, if I use him, but thats about it.

I never forget he exists, hes awesome, it just makes me REALLY upset that they made him like fucking Guy. i cant stand it. fighters with crap def wtf why. I mean, Raven right now at level 63 has a total of 2267 hp, at the end of the game, but he makes up for it by being sturdy with decent def and res since hes a hybrid charater. I dont remember repede having any stat that outclasses anyone in particular outside of speed.

It's kind of unfortunate that he turned into a the Guy of this game.

I fail at Tales games, don't have the reflexes for combos.
