Honestly, The Zelda game looks pretty good to me, the new Dragon Quest has potential, Kid Icarus has some potential if done right IMO.
Re: E3 2010: June 14-17
Sorry. But I have bias against nintendo. I don't like how all their big games are just the same game but remade in different places. With the exception of Golden Sun Dark Dawn, all of the games they announced are either remakes, or the same franchise that they've had going for years. They haven't had an original thought for a game that turned out good since No More Heroes.
Edit: I will say that their press conference did a helluva lot better than Microsoft though. At least Nintendo showed some actual GAMES.
But IMO Sony was the best. Even though I don't own a Ps3.
I had little to no interest in any of the games hyped at E3 this year, except for Golden Sun, but I count that in last year's roster.

That's basically true, yeah...it bugs me as well. I didn't like Twilight Princess as much as the other Zelda games for the same reason.Mufasa wrote:Sorry. But I have bias against nintendo. But this is the first real Kirby console game in seven years, and they seem to be using a bunch of new game mechanics.
And Donkey Kong Country hasn't been on a console since the SNES.
And Kid Icarus hasn't since the NES...and the whole game is completely different.
New, good IPs are great, but they're rare. Changing the game systems can breathe new life into old franchises, like with Metroid Prime, and Nintendo's using ones that aren't as whored out this time.
...Zelda could still be a problem, though. But the details on that one are so limited, there's no telling exactly how it'll turn out at this point.
They did add another dimension to the combat with the direction of your sword making a big difference on whether or not you actually hit...but that could easily fall into motion control failure territory, and just adding a bunch of Wiimote gimmicks isn't enough to renew a franchise.
Watch what you say about the graphics, though.
CARTOONISH, CEL-SHADED GRAPHICS IN A ZELDA GAME!?!?!?!? THAT'S RETARDED

I loved Windwaker. But Twilight Princess was pretty bad.
So this new game could either be bad, or okay. Cause Windwaker was great cause it could be hilarious, and dramatic without ever being too rapid of a change.
Twilight Princess was grindy and bleak.

Hmm...yeah, the Wind Waker characters were really expressive thanks in part to the art style, which was great.Mufasa wrote:I loved Windwaker. But Twilight Princess was pretty bad.

Twilight Princess couldn't pull that off nearly as well. And the new game here looks like the style leans more towards Twilight Princess...that could be trouble.
I still like how the new game looks, though. It looks a lot less gritty and stuff, like Wind Waker did.
It's a weird combination of the two styles.

*replying after having watched a few trailers*
Twilight Princess was fucking awesome, watchu' talkin' 'bout Lyle.
And don't get me wrong I absolutly loved Wind Waker, as well as it's graphics.
But when the game stops right before the final dungeon to make you look for god damn Triforce Pieces with the least responsive mechanic in the game, it kinda puts a damper on replayability.
So enough about graphics, the game looks good, the part about spinning your sword to screw up an eye lookin' thing, that was cool.
Anyway I'm more psyched about that Kid Icarus thing they showed, it looks good for a DS game, although I'm worried about how combat will play.
But am I the only one who noticed Pit was using.
Swords
A Crossbow
Wolverine Claws
A Lightsaber and A Lightsaber Rifle
When did Pit get so....Badass?
The Kirby game looked like a good platformer although the yarn thing was a little....WTF-ish.
I'll check out all the games and then ya know form an opinion based on fact instead of gay theorizing.

I loved how in the Zelda trailer the audience cheered when Majora's Mask was on the screen, and were pretty quiet for the rest of them, anyone else notice that? Lol.
But the Kid Icarus does look pretty awesome. Imma start saving up for a 3DS.I'd have to for PKM:B&W anyway. Lol. I kinda hope they change Pit's voice though, but it'd be fine if they didn't. At least it's a boy now. And not the Brawl voice. Lol.

Most voice actors aren't comfortable with their characters early on.
It's the same voice actor, she probobly just grew into the role.
It's the same reason that later episodes of dubbed anime are better then earlier episodes of dubbed anime.

Im sold.
Yeah that's pretty much my feeling about it as well, and a remake of Starfox 64 kinda had me sold as well so I guess I'll be shelling out money for it next year more than likely.

Re: E3 2010: June 14-17
Alright, let me take back my hateful comments against Nintendo's E3. I'm gonna actually watch the conference.
I apologize for that post.
....They still have to make up for the past few years to me though.
Edit: Okay okay. I admit it, I was wrong to bark down nintendo before I actually saw the conference. They did a hell of a lot better than Microsoft did, and they did better than Sony too. But only by a bit. I'm still disappointed by e3 this year, and nintendo didn't do enough to completely forgive them, but they did offer those hookers that I had been asking for to get me to like them again. It's just a shame that they were trying to distract us with the 3DS and were only in the Nokia theater.
Still, I have to say, that the problem with the Zelda controls were probably NOT due to wireless interference. They were probably because 1. The game probably isn't finished, which they can't be blamed for, and 2. because the wiimote controls are ass. which they can be blamed for.
Anyway, I'm not wetting myself over Nintendo's E3, but at least they had more focus on what the people at E3 want.
See, there's nothing wrong with making games for casual players. However, most people that go and watch E3 are NOT casual gamers. They're hardcore gamers that are willing to take out a week of their year to pay attention to E3. So advertising a bunch of gimicky casual games at E3 doesn't appeal to anyone. Advertising games that the hardcore gamers would WANT is a much better idea and will actually get people to enjoy your conference.
To grade them on their performances:
Microsoft - FSEE ME AFTER CLASS
Nintendo - B
Sony - C+

Maybe playing Twilight Princess on Gamecube helped, but I never got the impression the game was unfinished.

Please. Let's not give Nintendo too much credit. Otherwise they'll fall back into bad habits VERY quickly.

But if you reward them when they do something right, they're more likely to do it right again in the future.

Re: E3 2010: June 14-17
In theory. This event has only given them an extra chance in my eyes.
It really all relies on one thing for me: Dark Dawn.
If it's great, then Nintendo has redeemed themselves.
If it goes all Knights of Ratatosk on me, Nintendo is back down on my respect level, and I probably won't look into them during the next console generation. At least not before some other console.
Though, it's not the death dive they were in for me before this year's E3. But they're hardly off the hook.
