"That sounds rather promising find," the boy stepped in front of Lucy and Marcus' path, "would you care to explain its purpose in more detail?"

"!!!" Lucy unsheathed her dagger and took a battle stance.

"I would love to!" Marcus said cheerfully.

"EH?! What the hell is wrong with you!? A stranger comes out of nowhere and starts questioning you, and you react like THAT?!" Lucy yelled.

"You're reaction is just as strange, he's only asking a question..."

"*sigh*" Axel sighed to himself out of utter boredom. "This sucks............." he mumbled to himself. "At least im almost outta here and I'll be in Halure in no time!" he said trying to cheer himself up. "Then again.....Zaphias is nearby too......I wonder if I could visit Princess Estelle and thank her for before." Axel said as he began blushing thinking about the Princess. "Gahhhhhh! Why do I always get like this when I think about the Princess!?" he shouted as he furiously scratched at his hair to show his annoyance.

"Stop right there!" a voice from behind Axel said.

"H-huh!?" he said terrified as he turned around quickly to see a young boy, about 2 years younger than himself with short turquoise hair glaring at him. "What is it???" Axel asked.

"You have something we'd like." another voice said from the other side of Axel. He turned to see an angry looking woman about a year older than himself with short red hair and a small shirt that exposed her mid drift and cleavage.

"S-s-seriously? How? Im just a traveler and I dont have-" Axel started

"Shut up!" the girl said as she kicked Axel down into a patch of grass. "We know you have money! We saw you get off that boat! Now hand it over!"

"Ahh! W-why?" Axel said his voice beginning to tremble with fear.

"Because! Thats why!" the girl said as she pointed a dagger at Axel. "Now hand it over or else!"

"Hey sis.......I dont think this is right. I mean, we did stow away on the ship, but do we have to rob him? He's alone and needs money to survive too........" the boy said feeling guilty about what was going on.

"Shut up Onyx! Its him or us! We need money too! And here it is so lets just take it and plan our next course of action!" the boy's sister angrily shouted.

"St-stowaway? Thats not right!" Axel shouted at the two siblings.

"Shut up! Who the hell made you the guy who says whats right or wrong!? Survival of the fittest! Surviving is the right thing to do, and thats what we're doing. As for you, you're gonna kiss your life goodbye in a second!" she said as she began to thrust the dagger towards Axel.

"Wah!" he said as he regained the composure to stand up and move. He then stepped to the side where he could keep both siblings in sight. "I havent done anything wrong! Im not letting you kill me for no reason!" he said as he shot a fireball at the girl.

"Tch. Mage huh? No wonder you're such a pansy!" she said as she quickly dodged the fireball and swung the dagger at Axel.

"Stalagmite!" Axel said as he formed a stone wall between himself and the blade. "There's nothing wrong with using magic! Now just leave me alone-WOOOAHHH!" he said as Onyx tackled him into the bushes. "GET OFF-MFFFFFFFGH!"

"Shh!" Onyx gestured. "Do you have an extra pouch on you?"

"Yeah..............why?" Axel asked confused.

"Could I have it? I'll fill it with some stones and trick my sister into thinking i got the money from you. You get going once we leave." Onyx said as he began to fumble around for rocks.

"Why.........?" Axel whispered to Onyx.

"To tell the truth, I dont like my sister's methods. But she's all I have and im all she has. I dont want to abandon her, and I would be helpless without her. So I have to do as she says." Onyx whispered back to Axel.

"But..........what about when she finds out?" Axel asked Onyx.

"Oh. It wouldnt be the first time." Onyx said with a weak smile. Seeing him upclose, Axel noticed bruises on his face and a few cuts on his arms.

"Thats horri-MFFFFGH!" Axel began to shout as Onyx covered his mouth.

"SHHHH! Dont let her hear us!" Onyx whispered. "Hah! I got him sis! Now we'll be able to get a nice inn and eat dinner tonight!" he said as he left the bushes and returned to his elder sibling.

"Good. I was beginning to think you were too softhearted to handle this lifestyle." his sister said sternly, and completely unimpressed.

"Hehe. I'll get use to it in no time! Now lets go! Im beat!" Onyx said as he grabbed his sister's hand and began to walk off in the opposite direction Axel was heading towards.

"...........I think they're gone." Axel said to himself as he emerged from the bushes. "Still...........to think that family could hurt one another...........I wouldnt do that if I had a brother or sister......." Axel said to himself with his eyes tearing up. "No! I have to get going before they find out!" he said as he began to franticly run towards Halure.






"Onyx, let me have the money." his sister demanded as she held out her hand.

"Nah dont worry! Im mature enough to take care of it!" he said cheerfully as he smiled, trying to prepare for what was coming next.

"............is that so?" she said as she slashed the sack open and watched a stream of pebbles fall out.

"NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!! Lets go! That wimp looks as if he's got the stamina of a 3 year old. Theres no way he can beat us to Halure. As for you, you've done this one time too many. Once we kill that kid, im going to call your old friend out to play." she said with an evil smirk as she grabbed his arm so hard that her nails dug into his skin and sped off towards Halure.

"No..............not that! Anything but that!!" Onyx shouted to himself in terror as he was dragged off by his sister.

Cein pulled out 10 gald and left in the table as a tip, walking over to the counter, "How much?" he asked reaching into his wallet again.

"50 Gald." The clerk said looking toward him.

"Alright here," He put the appropriate amount on the counter.

"Thank you for your patronage, please come again." The clerk chimed.

"Don't worry I will." Cein laughed, "Definiately better than the usual of preparing food on my own." he thought. Finishing the conversation he made his way to the door, upon exiting he noticed that one of the men that was watching him started to follow him. "Great, another one." he sighed, "Might as well give him a run around." Cein exited and waited for the man to exit after him.

"Oh these look nice," Emi noticed a pair of knuckles that looked more like a pair of leather gloves, "How much are these?" asking the stall vendor.

"500 Gald," he said looking at what she was indicating.

"Umm..." She looked at what little money she had, "I don't suppose I could talk you down a bit?"

"No," He said going back to his work.

Emi sighed and decided to keep going, "I need to find a job of some kind." she thought to herself, "Cause I am nearly broke." she continued her window shopping heading towards the center of town.

The boy nodded in agreement, "Exactly, as long as you bare no ill intent with the treasure you've found I mean you no harm. Besides even if I did attack the advantage is clearly yours."

"Huff.......huff..........huff." Axel was panting heavily as he arrived at Halure's entrance. "Geez..........so much running and fighting...........this is too much for my body." he said as he fell over and reached for his sack for some food.

"...........Noooooooooooooooooo!" he shouted alarming some people passing by and enjoying the day. "Why?" he said as his eyes began tearing up. "It must have fallen off when I was running. I knew I dint tie the ropes on my bag tight enough! I've always sucked at knots! And now I lost my food! The money was for shelter.........not food...................AERRRRRRRRGH!" he shouted as he began to hit the ground near him.

"Now now. Getting upset wont help will it?" a Navy haired woman said to Axel as she looked at his meltdown and smiled. "You're more than welcome to have dinner with us." she said.

"B-b-but............." Axel started.

"Now now! Dont be shy!" she said holding his hand and leading him to her house.

"W-w-wait what!?" Axel said completely confused.

"Dear. We have a guest." the woman told her husband who was reading a book.

"Hrmmm? Who is it Eliza?" the man asked looking up. "He doesnt look like he's from around these parts. Where you from son?"

"D-danghrest." Axel timidly answered.

"That so? Well, it doesnt matter where you're from. Long as you're a good kid is all that matters son!" the man said walking to Axel and patting his shoulder. "Though that must have been a tough trip. You look all beaten up and covered in dirt. What happened?"

"Emhead Hill........" Axel began. "Wait. I dont think I should tell them I have some crazy woman and her brother chasing me." "I fell off a ledge. Some monsters started chasing me so I ran as fast as I could away and lost my food in the process......." Axel said feeling terrible about lying to the two warmhearted adults.

"Monsters eh? Shouldnt an adventurer be able to take out monsters? Otherwise you shouldve gotten an escort." the man said to Axel puzzled.

"I can but............I dont like hurting or killing. Even if they are monsters........they have their own lives too. The children have parents dont they? The Parents have children dont they!? The parents protect the children out of love right? Then what makes it right to just kill them on a whim!?" Axel began shouting becoming worked up.

".........I see." the man said. "Well, go clean yourself up. We'll have dinner ready by then son."

"Th-thank you." Axel said as he walked off towards the bathroom as if he was upset about something.

"Hehe. He's just like Noah in a way." Eliza said to her husband as she began setting the table.

"Yeah, I can see a slight resemblance too." he said as he began to prepare the food to be cooked.

Shaun was tired, he'd barely slept that night...it was probobly the location...he couldn't stand port towns. Although atleast fate had been merciful and not seen fit to send him to Capua Nor.

He didn't know why but for some reason it felt good to get out of Dahngrest for once...

"Maybe I'll go to Nordepolica...earn some gald fighting in the arena...chicks dig gladiators right?"

"My intentions are irrelevant," Marcus began. "This was a project assigned by Commandant Alexei. It's goal, is to be able to allow the use of repelling monsters in a more compact blastia, allowing for the easier passage of travel for trade routes." He paused. "I also intend to tell him that with modifications, the same device could be used to create an extremely powerful and condensed weapon. One that could cause a monster's own body to reject itself. Killing it in a messy, yet effective manner."

"W-what?" Lucy was hardly one to care for monsters, but it did sound rather brutal.

Cein let the man step out of the restaurant completely before grabbing him and pulling him into the alley next to it, "Why are you following me."

"Offer from a guild." The man seemed slightly surprised but not scared.

"Whatever it is, whoever it is, no." Cein started to walk away.

"It's from the Blood Alliance, we encourage you to join us, soon we will control Dahngrest." the man tried to cut Cein from leaving.

"Sorry not interested, Blood Alliance is way too shady for me, as for your claim on Dahngrest, I doubt many of the guilds would follow you." Cein started to leave the alley.

"You'll be sorry for passing up this opportunity," the man rushed by him.

"Why is it always someone," Cein sighed, "Maybe I should start a guild, since none of them appeal to me." he thought for a moment not moving, "Too much trouble, besides freelancing is more entertaining."

The boy whistled, "That is quite a fierce technique. I daresay that it could very well be the most powerful weapon imaginable."

"Indeed. In theory of course. We have to get the project to actually work. But my main focus right now is the safe transport of caravans." Marcus folded his arms. "Was there something else you wanted?"

"....." Lucy watched the two carefully.

"As a matter of fact..." the boy paused before smiling cheerfully, "I'd like to accompany you on this endeavor."

Emi stopped as she entered the central intersection of Dahngrest, "I wonder where I should go now, maybe I should start asking about Guilds.." she felt a pang of hunger in her stomach, "Or maybe I could get some food first," laughing a bit to herself as she glanced around, "That looks like a good place," Turning towards the left she started to head towards the restaurant.

"And what do you intend to gain from it?" Lucy finally jumped in, tightening the grip on her dagger.

Emi approached the restaurant to get hit by a man running from the alley and another man, dressed like a mercenary, like she had seen before in Zaphias came out and walked by, "Guess people here are a bit more rough, though they do enforce their own law." he seemed like he was distracted, "Wonder what's bothering him," she focused on the smells coming from the restaurant, "Oh well food comes first." she entered.

The boy explained himself, "An adventure. There is no doubt that a powerful weapon like that would attract all kinds of people, particularly those who would use it for less ethical means. That is of interest to me, and that is all the reason I need."

Cein sighed as he started to walk away from the restaurant, he passed a woman who was definitely new to Dahngrest, judging from the look she gave him in regards to the Blood Alliance cronie that ran by her. "Ah well she will learn soon enough." he stretched, "Might as well do some necessity shopping."

"Well, was that answer sufficient?" the boy asked.

Emi looked around the restaurant, it was busy with people eating their food and talking, to her it was something she rarely seen from the area of Zaphias she came from. "This is kinda relaxing actually," she thought, "So much more life." She sat down at a table.

"What will you have?" A waitress came over to the table.

"What do you serve." Emi asked not knowing what they served.

"Here," the waitress handed her a menu, "Call me over when you are ready."

"So it's some kind of game to you?!" Lucy snapped.

"Interesting. You and I are similar in that sense." Marcus said. "However, I only had her around for this brief excursion. Plus I don't really have the funds to pay for another bodyguard. You can accompany us to Aspio I suppose, but once we're there I won't need either of you. Speaking of which." Marcus tossed Lucy a bag of gold. "There's your remaining payment."

Emi stared at the menu and was amazed by all the choices, "These all sounds good." she sighed not being able to make up her mind, "Waitress!"
she waved her hand.

"What will you have." The waitress pulled out a pad of paper.

"I'll take a bowl of ramen with some tea." Emi handed the menu to the waitress.

"Alright," the waitress walked off towards the kitchen.

"How much for this," Cein handed a list to the shop keeper.

"3500 Gald for all of it." She handed a list to an attendent, "We'll have your stuff in a minute." she paused, "So where ya going this time Cein."

"No where right now." he glanced around the shop, "Just getting ready to go some where." he sighed as he leaned against the wall of the shop as he waited for his stuff.

Emi let out a content sigh as she finished her ramen bowl, "That was delicious," she thought to herself, "I should leave the waitress a tip." she left 5 gald on the table. She looked in her wallet, "I only have enough money for this meal and I'm out of money...." she sighed in despair, as she emptied her wallet on the counter for the clerk to take the money. "I really need to find a job now," she walked out of the restaurant, "Maybe I can get money for killing monsters."
