I agree. Fallout 3 was really good.

Most of the DLCs were really good too.

Actually, all of them were, except Mothership Zeta. AKA: Letdown in space.

The gameplay's barely changed, so that'll be fun at least.

I bet it'll be just as good or better. I'm not worried about it's quality.

As is the ally system.
And they actually have dialogue this time. And quests.

Thy they didn't in 3 I don't know. I always figured that that was a basic part of those types of games. But hey, they got it down now for Vegas, and that's what counts.

Yes it is. And Obsidian was responsible for Baldur's Gate or something. I could have sworn they had some kind of connection to it.

And Baldur's gate rocks.

Fallout New Vegas - Page 2 Empty Re: Fallout New Vegas

Read a review on it. Hearing some pretty questionable things about it

Wait, this wasn't made by the guys who did Fallout 3? Nope. Fallout 3 was developed by Bethesda, the team behind the Elder Scrolls series. Fallout: New Vegas, on the other hand, has been developed by Obsidian. It's a team that specialises in making sequels to other people's games, but is also home to former Black Isle Studios vets, the original developers of Fallout. This is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in that they're so good at getting under Fallout's skin that you won't even realise the switch in developers, but it's a curse in that many of Fallout 3's (and Oblivion's) flaws are along for the ride too.

And what flaws are those? This engine, despite being capable of some amazing vistas, is also busted at a fundamental level. Plastic-faced people, archaic character animation, dodgy AI path-finding, unreliable mission structures, misplaced map markings, these things - which let you down in Oblivion and in Fallout 3 - will let you down in this game as well. You'll even run into game-breaking glitches like becoming stuck in the terrain. When you have to hard-save a game every five minutes for fear of it crashing or trapping you, there is a serious problem.

Ungh. Anything else? Sadly, yes. Obsidian was stuck with the engine, but many of New Vegas' other problems can't be blamed on an outdated piece of technology. The game's voice-acting is woeful, undoing some great writing from the team, but my biggest problem with New Vegas is its size. The fact it's a lot bigger than Fallout 3's map may seem like a positive, but Bethesda knew that a dreary, post-apocalyptic world isn't exactly a joy to traverse. So they kept Fallout 3's world compact, and kept it interesting. New Vegas' expansive desert is just...boring. And when you're forced to trudge over rocks and dirt for up to 10-15 minutes at a time on a quest, it becomes really boring.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah. Was gonna get it, not gonna bother till the eventual patch to fix the horrific game breakers comes out (and it costs 20 bucks like we did with fallout 3), and fall out 3 bored me with his horrific bland "post apocalypse" landscape, but the commercials and stuff I saw for new vegas showed interesting areas so it kinda started to reel me in into wanting to try it. Im pretty sad to hear that its MORE bleak than FO3. Oh well, maybe its DLC will make it worth getting (after its price drop of course)

Fallout New Vegas - Page 2 Empty Re: Fallout New Vegas

Post by RESSURECTED LYLE DAYEK Sat Oct 23, 2010 10:48 am

There are certainly flaws to it, no doubt. But honestly, those sound like the complaints of someone who was going into the game expecting it to be bad.

I'm not gonna lie though, it's pretty glitchy. But in a world map that's so VAST that's bound to happen. I haven't come across any game breaking glitches though. I have seen a few enemies stuck in the world geometry, but I've never actually gotten stuck. I'm sure it's possible to break the game, however the Auto saves help a lot with that.

There have been moments that really pissed me off though. In order to get a new brain for a dog, I had to go to a certain location. I was planning on just doing a straight shot to the location, but there was a giant plateau in the way, and though I would have probably been able to climb it in Fallout 3, New Vegas has added 'the invisible wall feature' so I can't. In Fallout 3, any place you could get to, you can get too. So long as it's in the border of the map. In Vegas, they block you off sometimes.

Continuing on my mountain trudge, I had to go around the entire plateau for about 10 minutes, fighting off what I have deemed the most annoying enemies in the game: Cazadors, for about 20 minutes, including the reloads from when they killed me.

However, for me, it has the Windwaker effect. Trudging through the wasteland can get pretty damn boring, but it gives off a feel of the game actually feeling like an adventure. And you run into locations and people at random, giving a sense of discovery and intrigue.

Plus, once you find the location you want to go to, you can fast travel back there at any time. So after a while the wasteland trekking becomes less tedious. The invisible walls are still ass, and the glitches are pretty annoying, but I still think the good points make up for it.

If you go into it looking for things wrong with the game, like this guy did, you're not gonna like it. However, if you just embrace the glitches as what they are, they're never really game breaking for me, and you get the windwaker effect on the trekking, then the only thing that will bother you are the invisible walls. And they're only in places where it's pretty obvious that you can't get to it. Like when there's a giant plateau in your way.

Still up to you if you want to buy it. If it's not your type of game it's not your type of game. No one can blame you for skipping it. But while that guy raises some points, it seems like he wanted to find something wrong with it.

You know what's really fun? Getting swarmed by a pack of Deathclaws.

And when I say a pack, I mean A PACK.

A mother Deathclaw
A Father Deathclaw
Two Young Deathclaws
And then another full grown Deathclaw. Presumably the local Deathclaw Milkman or something.

Needless to say, I tore through my stock of Stimpacks, got addicted to Med-X, used Rex and Cass as bait, and they pushed me back a mile before they started getting homesick and headed back. I had to kill them though, cause I needed to go into the quarry for quest purposes. And they were in the way.

I found what I was looking for in the quarry and RAN MY ASS OFF.

And I had to fight them again, cause I finished a quest wrong.
Also, I just confirmed that the guy who does the voice of Akihiko does a few various voices in this game too.

On the note of Akihiko's voice actor, it was really funny helping him to get over a drug addiction.

Yeah, I just noticed that too.

I love how many sheer number of QUESTS there are in this game. I got into the strip and literally EVERYONE has some kind of quest for you.

Also, I knew Arcade Gannon was gay, but I didn't really think about it too much till I gave him the Reinforced Leather Armor to wear.
Now I'm a bit disturbed.

Also, go to Vault 34. IT's a pain in the ass if you don't have Radaways, but looting it is fucking awesome.

So now that the second patch has come out for 360/Ps3, the game is up to standard and not glitchy anymore.
Or at least as much.

I still won't blame you if you don't buy the game, and it's not as good as Fallout 3, but at least all the bugs are fixed. And they say that Energy Weapons are now balanced so that they're worth a damn.

It's strange to me that they didn't balance out the Ballistic Fist though. The thing was like an instant kill to anything less than a Super Mutant Master.

That includes the human player too at lower levels. Usually it's fine until you're surrounded by 8 Legionaries, all with Ballistic fists, and all of them wanting you dead.

New Vegas doesn't feel as big though. New Vegas makes the mistake of taking you around the entire map. There's nothing secluded from the plot at all.

Like, in Fallout 3, everything centered mostly around the DC area. There was still a lot more to the map, and you barely ever ventured up that far north.

I like Fallout 3 better. But I'm judging that with DLCs included. Which they all changed the game. So we'll see how Dead Money and future DLCs change that.
