"That's fine for now. I have enough saved up." Lucy remarked. "....I got a lot for my last job."

"How is just hitting monsters fine? Dont you have anything you want to do in your life?" Axel said to Lucy. "You dont have any goals or anything?"

"....Just survival."

"That sounds rather depressing. To have no desire beyond one's own survival" Noah chimed in, "would make one no better than the monsters in the wild. No, maybe even less than that."

"Hm?" Lucy raised an eyebrow. "I know well enough to not fool myself into thinking I'm more than anyone else. I have a blastia, and I'm a merc. That's it."

"Well thats depressing. Why don't you make yourself something better then?" Axel said. "Own your own business. Have people work for you and get paied for it or something."

"Who needs that kind of hassle?" Lucy remarked. "I take things as they come. It's too hectic a world to try and plan ahead and expect it to work out."

"Then what will you do if you get injured and cant take jobs for months? You wont have any money. No food, nothing to pay for your house or anything." Axel said to Lucy. "I live in the present too, but you have to have SOME kind of idea of what you wanna do."

"If I do, it's none of your business." Lucy said coldy, walking further to their destination.

"I was just trying to help I suppose." Axel said as he continued walking along Noah and Onyx.

"Eh, its her problem if she wants to be bitter about everything. Dont worry about it." Onyx told Axel to cheer him up

"I can hear you talking back there." Lucy scowled, a dark cloud forming above her head.

"Oh nooooooooooooooooo" Onyx said not caring.

"Grrr." Lucy twiched.

"Now now," Noah said chuckling, "anyway you mentioned the guilds earlier Miss Lucy? Are you in one...by any chance?"

"No. I've had offers, but I have no real beef with the empire. So there's no reason for me to join a guild, and end up limiting who I can or can't work for." She said. "I like being my own agent."

Noah raised an eyebrow, "Hm? Do you need to be on bad terms with the empire to join a Guild?"

"I dunno about that. But typically the guild people join guilds to get away from the empire. I'm not the biggest fan of the empire, but I don't want to isolate myself from them. They pay well, and they're pretty secure."

Then why did grandpa join one? Noah crossed his arms in thought, "I suppose shutting oneself off from either side would be unwise."

"From a business perspective anyway." Lucy said. "The guilds don't like the empire because of the laws they set and they want to live in their own anarchy. The Empire doesn't like the guilds, because they don't obey their laws and threaten their power. Neither want to go to war with the other, cause both sides are scared."

"Not all guilds are bad." Axel said seemingly offended by the conversation going on. "And not all of them are battle orientated either."

"They aren't bad. Well, no more than the people in the empire anyway. It's just the way it is."
